Bon Jovi into UK Hall of Fame

Postby Angiekay » Thu Oct 19, 2006 1:12 am

Bon Jovi is the latest name to be announced for this year's U.K. Music Hall Of Fame. They'll be inducted on November 14th, and they're expected to perform at the ceremony at the Alexandra Palace in London. The Hall Of Fame citation reads: "There are few acts in the world that can deliver stadium shows of massive proportions, release continuous hit albums, and solicit an entire new generation of fans 23 years into their career. Bon Jovi is that band."

This year's inductees also include Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson, James Brown, and the late Dusty Springfield, and Beatles producer George Martin will be honored for his contributions to British music. The U.K. Music Hall Of Fame ceremony will air in Britain on November 16th, and on VH1 in America on November 25th.

What a joke! I'd have thought Channel 4 (who support this largely worthwhile event) would have thought of honouring some British talent such as Maiden or Leppard before Jon and his merry men!

I used to be such a big fan of the band but after the show this year in Hull I am afraid JBJ has gone well down in my estimation on any level! I can only assume the record company want to push another compliation package for Xmas, there is no shame.

That Hull show was a one-off and even Jon has admitted that it wasn't their best performance by a long shot. There was tension in the air that night and that's where all the 'oh they're splitting up' rumours came from, but it was just a one-off. I was at Hull and at Glasgow on the same tour and the nights were world apart performance-wise.

I heard that Hull was booked by the promoters without the consent of the band and they were pissed off that they had to finish their tour in Hull, rather than the Milton Keynes dates (which had already been shifted from Wembley as we all know). That may be part of the reason why Hull was lacking in the usual Bon Jovi vibes!

:?

Lea: That is probably very true but as someone who has followed the band since they supported Kiss in 84 their performance, or I should say by Jon, was unacceptable and erased the memory of many great performances down the years. I don't know were Jon admitted it was a poor show but for all those who turned up and paid their money deserved far better, it was terrible. I posted on their site saying it was like being at a party to which I wasn't invited and the host was disinterested. I noted that all negative posts were removed soon after the event, talk about treating the fans with contempt!
