Time to call it quits?

Postby Abitaman » Sun Dec 31, 2006 3:38 am

Time to call it quits? I mean Van Halen is about Eddie. True it has had good front men with Sammy and Dave. But this is Eddie's baby. It is not like Journey, Styx, REO, Survivor, and the many other groups where it was about JUST ONE person. Journey has gone on with out Perry. Styx with out Dennis, Survivor without Jimi and Dave. Yes Van Halen has gone on without Sammy and Dave. But Eddie is a mess, and yes there are reports that he is trying to get it together. But he is screwed up. Eddie is messed up and Van Harlen needs to lay down. Just wanted some thoughts on this, not trying to stir up the pot or cause trouble. Anyone?

Eddie is screwed up.That much is obvious.Personally, if this is gonna be the last gasp of a legendary rock band,I would want to see the original lineup get together for one last tour and go out on top.If Queen can go out on top with a singer that was dying, then Van Halen can do it with an insane guitar player and a past his prime singer living in the 80's still.

But regarding the other bands you mentioned. They are all talented and such but there will always be people that would wanna see the original lineups.

The only way I would pay to see a reformed Van Halen is with the original lineup - Dave, Mike, Eddie and Alex - nothing more and nothing less. I attended four concerts during the 2004 tour, including the Tucson show where Eddie had his meltdown on stage. To say that I am apprehensive about this reunion would be putting it mildly.

What happens if Dave looks at Wolfie the wrong way or says something to the kid that Eddie doesn't like? I'm not being negative about all this, but I think this is a disaster just waiting to happen. If EVH is making an attempt to get his shit together, then good for him. Problem is he can't regenerate the brain cells he's killed with the alcohol and drugs.

Don't beat me up here, good people. As you can see, I am the new kid on the block. I came across this site and really liked what I saw and read.

Welcome new kid :D Need to be thick skinned around here (journey site mostly). I would like to see the orginal line up go for it. But I feel like you, that it will fall apart. It fell apart with Sammy, and Sammy is the most level headed of all band members, IMO.

I actually do have a thick hide, but thanks for the heads up! I agree with you about Sammy. That's why his concerts are so great - he's just there to have fun and entertain. He and MA are two of a kind, IMHO!

Welcome to the forums.

I agree though. There was a video on youtube where Michael and Sammy were play fighting with Wolfie and Eddie stormed in and started kicking sammy like he was trying to drop someone.

This thing will implode 3 to 4 shows into the tour. With Michael there it just might make it all the way through.Right now, the mighty Van Halen is roadkill.

I dont think its time yet. Ed may be a mess at times but when hes on hes still the one guitarist I would see anytime. If they tour next year I will go see Van Halen . It might just be the night he will be On. If Dave is singing which is sounding more likely lately, theres no question , I will be there. Rock On.

Eddie needs a 30-day stint in the Betty Ford Clinic before he goes on tour with ANYONE. After he kicks the alcohol we might be able to see the King in action again. Until then, all you will see from EVH is a circus performance.

Hey there, welcome aboard!

Gotta love Sammy, I agree with what you said...him and MA, can't beat that

As far as VH calling it quits...I just don't know. I'd love to hear them crank out another album, but for them to work continuously together, could be trouble :?

This is what I would do. I would bring back the original lineup AND Sammy. You play 2 45 minute sets. You have each singer rotate closing the shows. You get ALL the fans of each singer and they get to rest their voices. DLR will sound like shit 10 gigs into this tour. Neither he nor Eddie are mentally stable or responsible enough to tour together. At least if DLR and EVH have a meltdown, Sammy is there. With Wolfie and DLR and EVH together, this tour is doomed. Just wait til ANYONE comments on Wolfie missing a note or completely fucking up a song. Eddie's gonna be in jail in the blink of an eye. I, for one, hope this tour is a total disaster because of what they did to Michael Anthony. And it's gonna be.

I like your idea, but Sammy has said he would not work with Edward unless he was sober. And it's a pretty sure thing that won't happen! Mikey really did get the shaft (the VH brothers are sooooo good at that), but I can't help but feel badly for Wolfie. He is right in the middle of this mess!

Maybe being doomed is what they need. Most people can't recover until they hit rock bottom-ERIC

Continue what they're doing. Dave is back in the band and they are being inducted in to the Rock Hall Of fame.
