Proof that the 2007 Van Halen/DLR Tour will be a joke!

Here is a clip from the 2002 Sam/Dave Tour recorded almost five years ago. Listen to David Lee Roth's voice on the clip, and imagine adding five years of aging and touring to it. He can't even remember half the lyrics, and he just makes shit up as he goes along - LOL!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVN4meMCZUs

I think this is the major reason that DLR has been reluctant to sign on to the tour. He knew that his voice was toast, but the cash offer got the better of him. Add Wolfie to mix of DLR's toasted voice, and factor in the fact that Eddie will be drunk off his ass on Smoking Loon wine - and what do we have? A FUCKING FREAK CIRCUS!!! I can guarantee you that Michael Anthony will be very glad that he didn't make this tour after it is all over with.

Here's another one from the Sam/Dave 2002 Tour:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U-JXUbqClI

Notice how he makes up words as he goes along to fill in the lyrics that he can't remember. Also, the part where he squirts the Jack Daniels on the girls in the front row is funnier than hell! He said, "Are you old enough to have a drink with me?" Then he held the bottle like it was his dick and shot it all over them. LOL!!!!

Holy crap, was that bad. I thought he was bad enough back in their heyday but that was some of the worst crap I've ever heard. I can stand seeing a show with a bad singer but that would just flat-out ruin the show.

im floored... however, the bright side is ,, he sounded bad in '84 as well.. why do i remember roth as a great singer? hes tone deaf on Mean Street..

Ouch

Just can't see me paying to see what they're planning. :?

Those actually don't sound so bad, relatively speaking. I've heard much worse singing from Roth, even back in the day. At least he's somewhat trying in these clips, even though the backing vocals are carrying him in places...and no MA means no safety net, unless they bring in a ringer or two.

Now, the clothes and hair... yeesh.

Yep, and the lineup will be laughing all the way to their respective banks!

Voyager, are you actually a fan of Van Halen, or do you just come here to continually bash the band and/or Edward?

That's not even worth answering.

Let's put it this way, I'm a fan of all really good rock music. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be here. When I see people throwing away their talents by drinking themselves to death and/or not caring about the quality of performance that they give to their fans - I see no reason to keep my mouth shut. Especially when I pay good money for their CD's and concert tickets.

If you decide to pay to go see Van Halen in 2007, don't say you weren't warned in advance. As for me, I see no reason to waste my money on a circus. And I am not alone, judging by the other posts on this forum and many others.

Definitely in your corner on this one, Voyager. There are way too many avenues of good rock music to follow rather than this sad reincarnation of Van Halen. And keep in mind, how the fans feel doesn't matter in the least to Eddie. For those who choose to buy tickets, I sincerely hope it's everything you are expecting it to be. If not, remember Voyager's words - you were warned!

It's ALL quite comical! Who knows what the future holds? Maybe the whole thing will work wonderfully!

No kidding. This band has proven time and time again that they don't give a squat about the fans anymore. They kicked out the only guy that was fun to hang with in Michael Anthony and Eddie is drinking himself to an early grave. So I think I agree with Voyager in bagging on this once great but now a joke of a band.

Didn't they tour in 2004? I don't understand the 'They don't give a squat about the fans' thing.....I urge anyone who doesn't like the band or thinks they suck ass to visit the forums of sites of bands they actually DO like.

I think that's more than fair.

Yes, they did tour in 2004 and, yes, I saw four of these shows. Those four shows are the reason why I refuse to be excited about the upcoming tour. Eddie was dead on his ass drunk before he ever hit the stage. Several times it was quite apparent that Sammy, Mike and even Alex had no clue what song Eddie was stumbling with. I wish VH all the best and hope they can pull it off for the benefit of the fans who have supported them through all the BS. I will spend my concert bucks on something that is actually entertaining. One of the things I like about this site is that you CAN voice your opinions, whether those opinions are good or bad. So methinks I will just stay here!

BTW, if VH and Sammy Hagar were playing in my town on the same night, my ass would be at Sammy's show. I buy a concert ticket to hear good music and have fun. The go-nowhere, do-nothing merry-go-round that is Van Halen is not fun anymore.

Ditto. I paid big bucks for fourth row tickets for my wife and I to see Van Halen in Saint Louis on their 2004 tour. It was a joke! Eddie was drunk on his ass, and Sammy and Michael were obviously disgusted that they were even on the same stage with someone like Eddie who didn't give a damn about the quality of entertainment they were offering to their fans. My wife and I left the show two-thirds of the way into it. I just could not stomach watching Eddie make such a fool of himself. The clincher for me was when he brought out his 15-year-old son Wolfgang and started parading him around like he was God's gift to humanity. What a joke! When Eddie started kissing him on the lips and drooling on him on stage, I said to my wife, "I'm out of here!" Then we bailed.

Since that time, I have seen Sammy Hagar's solo show twice with Michael Anthony, and both shows kicked ass! Even though Sammy's guitarist is not as talented as Eddie Van Halen, he is much more of an entertainer, and much more sober on stage. Sammy is truly an entertainer at heart, and so is Michael Anthony. They are all about making sure the fans get their money's worth, unlike Eddie who doesn't seem to give a rat's ass anymore. He is not the Eddie Van Halen that we used to know.

They played two dates in St. Louis during that 2004 fiasco, Voyager, and I was at the first one. I saw another show in Chicago, one in Detroit and the most "memorable" one of all - the last show in Tucson. I didn't go to multiple concerts because they were that good - I went with the hope that it would get better which it never did. What a waste of time and money!

I was at UMB Pavilion last year for Sammy's show and it kicked ass! Sammy and Mike are all about having a good time and making sure the fans are having a good time as well. I was fortunate to meet MA some years ago, and he honestly is one of the nicest guys you will ever come across. I find it amazing that the VH brothers could have treated him so shabbily.

For a 50+ year old guy, he's in great shape physically, his voice on the other hand is well...lacking. Then again, his voice lacked on the Fair Warning tour also. Dave is a great showman, Sammy is a great entertainer.

Yeah that's a fair call....however, I have never understood people who go to sites or forums purely to bash a band or artist incessantly.

I'm not saying you in particular are doing that, but there certainly are a few here who have nothing good to say about VH as a band or Eddie himself. In fact, some have downright hurtful and unnecessary things to say. That's fine, everyone has an asshole and everyone has an opinion but it does get boring quickly.

For fuck's sake people, go visit a band site that you actually like, ya know!!!

I have a DVD boot of the Diver Down tour, and DLR forgets lyrics on there, too. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I have plenty of good things to say about bands that are giving me reason to say good things about them. For example, I don't bash Journey on their forum here because they don't give me any reason to. Van Halen, on the other hand, is currently giving their fans a lot of reasons to be disgusted and disappointed in them. Since this is America, we have the right to speak out about it.

Sure, we could sit around here and post about how great Van Halen was in 1984 and re-hash old stories, but that would get old real quick. People like to talk about current events. Take Britney Spears for example. Many of her fans are bashing her right now, and some of her fan club websites have even shut down. Why is that? It's because instead of creating good music for her fans, she is out getting drunk and flashing her pantiless pussy around. This is very similar to the reason why Eddie Van Halen's fans are upset with him. Instead of creating good music and getting along with his band members long enough to put on a good tour, he is drinking himself to death and using very poor judgment by doing stupid things like replacing Michael Anthony with his son Wolfie. Michael Anthony provided the bottom end and half of the signature vocals for Classic Van Halen. Many fans think this was a stupid, petty decision on Eddie's part and was most likely fueled by his drunken, inebriated state of mind. This is only one example of the stupid things Eddie has been doing to piss his fans off.

I can assure you that as soon as Van Halen starts giving us something good to talk about, I will be the first to do so. Until then, I will call things like I see them - and I am obviously not in the minority. In the mean time, if you want to be part of a forum that doesn't allow you to speak negative about a band, I know a place where you will feel right at home: Journey Backtalk.

P.S. - Why don't you have anything good to say about President Bush? Is he fucking up or something? Does that give you reason to bash him? Why can't you find a president that you can say good things about? I rest my case.

Roth has always been hit or miss. Even back when VH was in their (Roth years) prime. Some nights he sounds good. Other nights he doesn't. It's nothing new.

Yeah. The dude was a true rock star. Didn't matter if he came out drunk or flubbed the lyrics back then. Different story now, tho.

Back then, Dave was all about the vibe while the band was about the musicianship. That's what made them legendary.Nowadays it's about him being able to get along with Eddie, whether or not Mikey is in or out, and Eddie being sober enough to play guitar.

These clips are ok, not the disaster I thought they would be. When I saw him in 83 and 86 it was a million times worse than this. Im not saying he's Glenn Hughes on these clips but Im sure if I was there I would enjoy it.

I have boots from 2005 & 2006 where he sounds much better
Dave has never been world best singer, but he was worlds best frontman in my opinion.
Dave will be missing Mike's backing vocals now.
If Dave concentrates more on his singing then his stageact ill bet he blows ya away.

Didn't sound that bad to me and more recent clips I've heard are a good deal better and other reports corrobrate that.

Ive seen those clips and even have the NJ 2002 tour on video. I agree DLR doesnt sound great on the video or on those clips . BUT I saw him Live on that tour twice with SH.
One in Devore on June 22 and in Los Angeles June 24 and both times he sounded great . He didnt disappoint me . The wife and I had a great freakin time at both shows. His voice probably got worn out a bit toward the end but it was fine at the shows I went to. Even saw him on New Years Eve 2003 show in Los Angeles and he was on. Thats why I say DLR and boys will be fine and the show should be great. I wont miss it guys. I hope none of you do.

You don't have a case you silly twat!!!

Comparing a rock star with a 'President'? For starters, one is, or has been a drunken, coke snorting wastrel who has had everything in life handed to him on a plate, is a lying, diry **** of a man and has COMPLETELY and utterly fucked up........and then theres Eddie. 8)
