Ed said THE OTHER HALF is just a cover band. Isn't this without M.A.? Im goin, I dont care how bad Dave might,or might not sound. No matter what people say there is not a new band out that has a more original sound that V.H.

The Other Half is a cover band? Ummmm, I think Ed and Company did quite a few covers when they were playing the club scene. Obviously, he forgot about that.

Yes, but don't they all have a little more experience and a larger body of work at this point?

Is the VanPornSoundtrack music going to be in the setlist? Might be a good way to get Dave a blow.

Love how all the big markets are basically jumping on this around the same time.
Folks over at the VH Trade Forums have been mentioning this for awhile, and gotta' give them even more props because before the all the big news markets starting jumping all over this, folks over there were giving this exact time frame.

I'm excited to see Dave and Eddie on stage together again. When I went to see CVH in 1981 I remember Dave and Eddie the most.

The Other Half is a cover band because MA didn't write any of the VH music. Eddie wrote the music and Dave wrote all the lyrics. This version of VH is not a cover band for the same reason.

Imagine if you were Eddie and your bass player that didn't write any of the music forms a band called The Other half and plays all your music. How would you feel? I know I would feel betrayed. MA has been riding Eddie's coat tails for 3 decades and became very wealthy doing it.

Don't forget MA newest band,The Mad Anthony Express that plays all of Eddie's music also.

I would have more respect for MA if he did a solo album with his own songs atleast to play along with the CVH songs that The Mad Anthony Express plays. I don't know of one single song that MA has ever written.

Interesting view. I guess Eddie thinks it's wrong for MA to make money off of VH music without him and Alex. But you left out that he was playing in The Other Half with Sammy, who wrote or co-wrote much of the music they played.

You're right,I thought about that after I posted that Sammy wrote the lyrics for the songs they recorded with him so he's riding Eddie and Sammys coat tails. The name The Other Half refers to them being The Other Half Of VH and thats kind of sticking it in Eddies face. They also talked some shit about Eddie during the performances (while they where playing his music) especialy before they played Summer Nights. Sammy would say they couldn't play that song in 2004 because Eddie forgot how to play it and then launch into the song with the spotlight on Sammys guitar player.

The Mad Anthony Express is just MA and Sammys solo band members playing CVH that MA didn't write any of. I know he got credit on the albums but Eddie said back in the early days he did that before he knew he would be writting all the music. In later years Eddie said MA got rich off of his music and he still is with The Mad Anthony Express. MA needs to record something, even just a EP because he lives off of Eddie,Dave and Sammys music.

He's just a bass player with a good BG voice. I don't know this, but I doubt he writes anything. He knows his role. He may not have written anything with VH (not sure of this either), but he sure as hell contributed to the distinctive sound of VH. I wouldn't be surprised if they pipe in some of his BG vox on the upcoming tour.

A lot of VH writing credits are co-credits for full band which of course means MA gets credit too...

I understand that but there's a thread somewhere in this forum about a unrealesed GW Eddie interview from around 81 or 82 and Eddie said MA doesn't contribute ANYTHING.

Very possible. But Eddie has made his decision to replace MA and I think its mostly because he wants to play with his son. Eddie has been thinking about replacing MA since around 81 but he felt to bad to do it. Dave wrote in his book that MA was nearly replaced for every album. I think The Other half was the final straw for Eddie and he just said screw it,Wolfgang is in. I have nothing against MA but but there's nothing anyone can do about him being out of the band and it won't stop me from seeing VH because of it like a lot of other people at other forum sites.

I think Eddie's idea to replace Michael Anthony has several factors behind it:

1. Eddie wanted to suck up to David Lee Roth, so he figures if he plays an anti-Hagar card by dissing MA, it will gain some brownie points with DLR.

2. Eddie was in a drunken, pissy state of mind when he got mad at MA and cut him from the roster.

3. Eddie was in a drunken stupor and had a whacked-out idea that his immature, inexperienced son could replace a rock icon.

Whatever combination of these three factors led to the axing of MA, it's water under the bridge now. I don't see any turning back at this point.

I think it's likely that Mikey is relieved to be free of the drama surrounding Van Halen. In his interview with Angie Kay, he said "we're not 25 anymore and just want to get out to the fans and have fun". Something along those lines.

One more thing and I am out of this VH forum. Does anyone really know if Eddie is clean and sober? I don't mean cutting back to six beers and a bottle of wine every day, but is he 100% sober? Since he was not able to mend fences with MA, I question the success of his rehab.

For anyone that will be buying a ticket, good luck. I hope you get your money's worth!

Over and out!!!

I think that somewhere between "brings in his own songs" and "has every note dictated to him" is a vast grey area which many team player-types inhabit, MA among them.

In any case, existence of The Other Half is most likely just a convenient, symbolic excuse.

Trailblazer wrote:Since he was not able to mend fences with MA, I question the success of his rehab.

Ayup. Tour with the guy or don't, but I'll believe the hype of EVH having his head on straight when I see some kind of magnanimous gesture towards MA. That, and admitting responsibility for the fiasco that was 2004.

Eddie was in rehab for drug addiction, probably alchohol too. He was smoking meth and it showed. Rotten teeth, missing teeth until he got them fixed this year.

Good question, been wondering the same. I mean, what did MA really DO other than play w/ Sammy and DLR in 2002 when VH was on hiatus?

Don't know that MA did anything other than make the decision to tour with Sammy, JoePa. I don't think we will ever know the bullshit he put up with during his years with that band. One thing I have always been curious about - if his musicianship was sub-standard as Eddie has inferred and if they were trying to get rid of him for 20 years, why did it never happen until recently? Don't know about you, but if my work was sub-standard, it sure as hell wouldn't take my boss 20 years to fire my ass.

That kind of lifestyle usually doesn't get fixed during a 30-day stay in a posh celebrity rehab. Many celebrities go back to drinking and drugging the same day they leave the place. If Eddie hasn't done any drinking or drugging since he left rehab, he would be in the minority.
