Poor Michael Anthony

What a bummer for Michael Anthony. Eddie, David, Alex, and Wolfgang are selling out shows, Sammy Hagar just sold his tequila business for $100 million, and Mikey is stuck with a bottle of fucking hot sauce that nobody ever heard of.

:(

Maybe so, but he has been disrespected enough by the guitar god. Ed went over the line!

MA crossed the line when he started The Other Half with Sammy and The Mad Anthony Express playing all of Eddie's music. I know Eddie felt betrayed.

MA should have recorded a solo CD if he was tired of waiting for VH instead of making more money off of Eddie.

Mike is one of the all-time great guys in this cutthroat music industry. Truth be told, he is probably much happier playing with Sammy. He is, after all, a musician and it is clearly apparent that he loves entertaining people. I made no effort to buy VH tickets, but I'm damn sure going to see Sammy and Mike in November. Can't wait!

I agree with you on that one so no one should feel sorry for MA.

Feel sorry for Mikey?

I wouldn't have minded his life and his bank account!!! Good on him.

You always start the same exact threads here that you do at the links word for word. Do you like copy and paste?

No one feels sorry for someone who is a multi millionaire, has a great family and is going to make even more money this fall playing Eddie and Dave's music in The Mad Anthony Express and Eddie and Sammy's music in The Other Half. He has a vacation home in Arizona,a bunch of hot rods that he collects and a mansion in the Hollywood hills.

For real! And I'm getting tired of people saying there's something WRONG with Michael Anthony playing music live that he helped create! That's a load of shit! He has every right in the world to play those songs live and profit from it. Hell, TRIBUTE bands do it...why not a guy who actually was there?? He's making no bones that he IS Van Halen (like some other so called bands do these days). Cut the guy some slack...

Glad you brought that up, X factor. Like you, I couldn't understand why people had issues with Mike doing the VH songs. Didn't Dave do VH songs during his solo career? While Dave may have had more of a hand in creating the songs, Mike's name is on the writing credits along with Ed and Alex. All he wants to do is play for the fans and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. Rock on, Mikey!

Eddie has said in the past that MA didn't contribute anything. He also said that he split the credits 4 ways before he knew he would be doing all the writting and didn't want to be an asshole about it. Eddie wrote ALL the music, Dave wrote ALL the lyrics. IMO Alex doesn't even deserve any writting credits either.

He is and he told me as much when I interviewed him a couple weeks ago. He was sitting on his butt doing NOTHING because the VH couldn't decide what to do and weren't communicating with him. Sammy called him up and he said HELL YEAH! I don't blame him one bit.

That is why he's not in Van Halen and is in The Other Half.

The band had already been together (and producing original tunes) for the better part of a decade before they had a publishing deal -- plenty of time to work out how things were going to divvy up creatively. There's no way that EVH had a notion that suddenly it was going to change once they started making albums. Splitting up the credit they way they did was was choice as magnanimous as it was honest. Quite rare in the music business. EVH was the driving creative force but didn't want to be an asshole about it? Absolutely. At the time.

When we're talking about a rock band, we're talking about "writing music" in the loosest possible sense. I don't buy for a second that EVH wrote out all the parts, or dictated everything that he didn't play himself in minute detail. The band has historically been portrayed as a much looser, jam-based ensemble than that.

Eddie is the one who said it and he would know more than any of us who writes the music. I don't think he would tell a national magazine that if it wasn't true and if it's not true MA never defended himself.

If MA has nothing to do now - I wish he'd write a book, now that would be a good read, especially if he told everything like Sammy tried to do a few years ago.

MA has plenty to do this fall. He will be on tour with his own band The Mad Anthony Express playing Eddie and Dave's music since he can't write his own music and release his own CD. Also he will be playing in The Other Half with Hagar playing Eddie and Hagar's music so he's going to make a small fortune this fall.

It wouldn't surprise me if MA wrote a tell all book about VH since he already betrayed the band. MA wasn't fired from VH,he went out and started 2 new bands playing VH music so VH found another bass player. MA seems like a nice down to earth guy but I think he took Eddie for granted.

He didn't BETRAY anyone!!! THat's a load. So what if he didn't write the music? You're gonna tell me that his presence, playing, and ESPECIALLY his harmonies didn't play a huge part in the Van Halen sound? He has as much right to play those songs as anyone. Are the ATOMIC PUNKS betraying Van Halen? Is Sammy when HE plays the songs? Was Dave?

Sorry- don't mean to get so uppity, but Damn- I think Mike has been screwed, and I don't blame him one bit for doing what he did. You have to remember- the whole "other half" thing was WELL after he fell out with Eddie (from what I understand)

Don't rule out him being on bass opening night.

No. He did one guitar solo and didn't even get paid for it. He never toured without the band either.

Dave and Sammy have a right to perform the VH songs because they wrote half of the music. They both have also put out solo CD's.

The Atomic Punks are a tribute band and none of the members were in VH. There's a difference.

If MA would have did a solo CD and toured with his own band playing some of his own music along with VH music things would be different and he would probably be in VH right now. Sure he has a right to perform VH music and he went and started 2 bands and toured playing VH music and makes a lot of money doing it. So Eddie figured MA has 2 new bands and didn't invite him back to VH. MA is happier this way,he's touring with his best friend and having a great time. He said in interviews that Eddie was hard to work with on the 04 tour anyways so why would MA want to even tour with Eddie again?

So try not to be pissed at Eddie because no one can change the situation. We are not Van Halen's management or anything and you have the choice not to go see VH and go see The Other Half so everyone should be happy. Right?

Yeah I don't mind it when he sings normal harmonies in his higher register along with Ed, but those shrieks he is 'famous' for are just that to me - shrieks.

Yea, they're HORRENDOUS live.

I love his bg/harmonies studio but way over the top live and him singing Somebody Get Me A Doctor on the III tour sounded like a shrieking Rob Halford.
