This just pisses me off. I wouldn't give Van Halen any of my money if you held a gun to my head. Check out the very last line of this story.

Van Halen may have restored former bassist Michael Anthony's photos to the album cover art on the band's official web site, but it seems the group is still trying to remove Anthony from its history. According to AntiMusic.com, Anthony's name has been taken off the writing credits for some of the group's music. An email to the site from a Van Halen fan explained, "On every single Van Halen song (with exception to the three new songs on the Best of Both Worlds compilation), credits have always gone to Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony and the lead singer who is featured on the song...However, during the credits of the film Superbad, which features the song 'Panama,' the song is only credited to the two Van Halens and (David Lee) Roth! Anthony continues to get snubbed by his former band as they attempt to erase him from the history of the band."

AntiMusic checked the ASCAP database and learned that Anthony's name has been removed from the songwriting credits of the album 1984, on which "Panama" originally appeared, although apparently he still gets credit on other Van Halen releases.
Anthony was reportedly forced to sign a reduced royalty contract in order to take part in the 2004 reunion tour with singer Sammy Hagar, according to Wikipedia.org. Anthony also apparently did not play on the three songs recorded for the Best of Both Worlds collection.
A furor erupted online last week after photos of Anthony at the band's official web site were either removed or replaced by an image of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, who will play bass on the group's upcoming tour. The photos were restored less than two days later.
Van Halen announced the details of its long-awaited reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth last Monday (August 13th). The tour kicks off on September 27th in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Pre-recorded tapes will reportedly be used to recreate Anthony's backing vocals on the tour.

He's not good enough to have on the tour, be on the website or have his name credited for songs, but they are going to use his voice? Fuck you Eddie.

If this is true then there is nothing new to the story.
Unfortunately, we all know who VH brothers are.
Unfortunately, when there is a fight between 2 parts , we all know we can expect the worse.
Unfortunately for Michael Anthony, I believe his credits to the songs were a pure gift done by Eddie Van Halen, who decided to remove him after this fight.

About pre-recorded tapes: how many bands have pre-recorded keyboards or even singers standing below the stage ? I read back then that Aerosmith for instance had Tommy Funderburk making up high notes for Steven Tyler below the stage in their Eat the Rich tour.

I will enjoy every single second of this tour if only they will last enough to tour Europe. That's my only fear.

I do think it's bogus that they are trying to rewrite history by removing Mike from songs that he's been getting paid for under a long-established agreement.

I don't have any problem with Mikey not getting credit for the songs on BOBW, because they were already done, (even Mikey said this) and all Mikey did was come in and sing some backup vocals. You don't get writing credits for just singing.

If you did, then they'd owe Steve Lukather a good bit of money as he's helped with backing vocals on more than a few VH songs, such as Top of the World, and the 2004 songs.

But yeah, I think it's pretty shitty the way Eddie has treated pretty much everybody in the band at one point or another.

I think they're misinterpreting Edward's remark that the band's recording new BG vox w/ Wolfie to pipe in onstage.

First I've heard of the possible MA use, that would be ckeeky.

No one forced MA to sign away his rights to VH but he did because he knows he didn't write any of those songs and he wanted to make more money on the 04 tour. I know he said he was paid less than the rest of the band but I'm sure he still made millions.

Who in their right mind would ever sign away the rights to songs that they wrote? I sure wouldn't. I would rather have the royalties for life then make money on one tour.

Eddie never toured without VH or MA but MA has been out for the past 5 or 6 years touring with Hagar and talking shit about Eddie while Eddie was recovering from cancer so I don't blame Eddie for not inviting MA back.

You are 100% correct.

I guess no-one is going to be forced to go see the band.....I remember Roth once saying he and Eddie wrote the songs, period.

Eddie has said the same thing too.

If Eddie removes Alex's name from the writing credits, I will believe all this crap is being done for a reason other than sheer vindictiveness.

I think MA has done a commendable job of keeping his mouth shut over the years - much more so than Roth ever did. It's only been within the last couple of years that he has spoken up about the situation between him and Eddie.

If people want to believe the sun rises and sets with Eddie Van Halen, that is their business. But at least recognize the fact that, although he is a legend in his field, he is a truly lousy human being. His behavior is a damn good indication that his rehab is a bust!

MA kept his mouth shut for so long because he was making a fortune with VH.

If anyone here had writing credits to the entire Van Halen catalog would you be crazy enough to sign that away to go on one tour? Open your eyes, the VH catalog is worth a fortune. MA did not write any of the VH songs.

Did Alex participate in the writing of these songs? Shit, Alex can't even open his mouth.

BTW, do you have a concert ticket, vhroth?

I haven't seen Dave and Eddie on stage together since 1981 but I will be seeing them this year and it's going to rock. I don't really remember much about MA from 1981,he was just kinda there like a sideman.

I don't think Alex really contributed to the song writing either. Alex did design the album covers though and Dave designed the stage show.

If he designed the Fair Warning album cover, he should be arrested for that abomination. Ugliest damn album cover ever!! Same with VH3, if he did that one.

I think Mike is fine with what is going on -- judging by his comments on his website.
