MA: "It would have been cool to get onstage with Dave

"That's the one thing that's really kind of sad," Anthony continued. "It would have been cool to get onstage with Dave again, but I'm not going to whine about it, because that's the way it is. Why waste my time trying to make a stink about it?"

Translation: MA wants to make more money from VH.

He did a interview after the Best Of Vol 1 was released saying that when he first went up to the studio and Dave was there he told Eddie and Alex that he would not tour with VH if Dave was in the band. Eddie and Alex said that after the MTV awards that Dave had his last 15 minutes of fame and there was no chance of them ever working with him again. I guess it all comes down to money for all of them, including MA. But I think Dave is not doing this completely for the money. He could have toured with VH in 2000 and in 2004. He turned down the 2004 tour when he could have made a lot of money but VH wanted him to open for them and then later go on stage with VH and do some CVH songs so I think Dave does have some integrity.

I'm not starting a stink here, vhroth, but why does that translate into Mike wanting to make more money from VH? You don't think Dave and the brothers are doing it for the money? They ALL do it for the money, but Mike does have a sense of loyalty to the fans which is a whole lot more than the brothers have. I guess I'll never understand the need to dredge up years old interviews and pick them apart. If that is what floats your boat, though, happy sailing!

One more thought. If Mike did, indeed, tell the brothers that he would not tour with Roth, it would have been Ed's golden opportunity to be rid of Mike once and for all. We know that didn't happen. As far as Roth declining the 2004 tour, I don't know that integrity had anything to do with it. IMO, he just didn't want to share a stage with Hagar.

Thats basically what I said,it all comes down to money for all of them. If MA could choose between touring with his best friend and having a great time on the nightly 2 hour Cabo Wabo Tequila commercial or touring with VH knowing Eddie and Alex don't want him in the band and he would probably have a miserable time with VH,he would still choose to tour with VH because he would make more money.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but that was your opening comment. I think what bothers Mike the most is the fact the the brothers are doing everything they can to erase him from Van Halen history.

MA said in a interview that he did indeed tell VH he would not tour with Dave. It didn't matter because Eddie knew that wasn't going to happen and Ed didn't want to put 2 new members in the band at the same time. As for Dave,I don't blame him for not wanting to share the stage with Hagar on a VH tour. The point is that he could have and made a lot of money doing it but turned them down.

You believe what you want and I'll believe what I choose. Of course, you are going to have the advantage because I'm not sitting at home reading ten-year old interviews and hitting Van Halen websites all day.

Winter 1998

The Inside: How did you feel about the return of Roth to the VH camp in 1996?

MA: There was nobody that did not want Roth back in the band more than me. I didn't even know he was coming back. I called the studio one day looking for Eddie. Ed picks up and says, "Someone wants to say hi to ya," and all of a sudden Roth was on the phone. I just hit the floor. All those years of him being in the band just flashed through my mind. He picked up the phone and said (doing a perfect Roth impersonation with a whiskey-soaked voice), "How ya doin', man!" I knew exactly who it was. I just said (in a dead-pan voice), "I'm fine, Dave. How are you doing?" But none of that happened until Sammy said he was out of the band. Nothing with Roth was even done behind Sammy's back. Ed might have spoken to him once or twice, but that was the because Roth had called and he wanted to know what stuff was going to be put on the "Best Of."

It doesn't matter because all of a sudden everyone thinks MA is VH. He is the CVH sound. He is Mr. perfect. MA made VH. MA completes VH. If Eddie called up MA and asked him to tour with them this year MA would dump Hagar in a $econd.

ONE YEAR LATER:
December 1999

DFC: That’s good news! But what happened with Gary?

MA: It was a mutual thing. Gary did leave the band because of writing differences stuff like that. After the holidays, when Ed get’s better, we’re gonna see what’s going to happen. It could be a reunion with one of the others, with Dave or Sam. We haven’t decided anything yet.

DFC: I guess it would be a major sell out if Dave returns.

MA: Oh yeah. I think Dave would probably come back. The reasons why it didn’t work out after the ‘Best of’ were kind of silly reasons. Mostly on Dave’s part. I don’t know...it’s kind of frustrating because I got a new guitar deal I’m working on with Yamaha guitars. I’d like everything to work out with a big new tour. I definitely think that whatever we do we’re gonna kick some major ass.
