I couldn't believe that this song wasn't done on the "Live Without a Net DVD." I know I've caught clips here or there on the infamous YouTube (one my friend showed me was during the studio takes, the other looked like it could've been from the F.U.C.K. or Balance tour?). If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I wonder if they played it at all on that tour?

Maybe since they already had "Why Can't This Be Love" and "Love Walks In", they thought three slow songs would be too much?

I'm not sure...but since they really never had a slow songs until then...

I saw them both nights that they played in Detroit during the 5150 tour and they did not play dreams either night.

I know the song received popularity years (correct me if I'm wrong) after the album came out when they made the music video featuring the Blue Angels footage.

they released the blue angels vid when the single was released, i thought there was also a live version, ill have to check the archives.

There is a live version, but I think it was shot at the Whiskey and quite a few years later...

"Dreams" was never done live, acording to the VH encyclopedia. It made its first appearance live as the final encore on the "Balance" tour in 1995. The "Dreams" video shoot at the whiskey was done as a one off performance. The "Dreams" that you hear on "Right here, Right now", the live album was probably re-recorded in the studio and live-doctored up.

Does "Dreams" really count as a "slow song?" Pretty keyboards notwithstanding, I've always seen it as a more driving sort of
tune.

Would have been interesting to hear it on the 5150 tour, what with EVH still playing keys live at the time and SH covering the guitar parts.

I guess slow wasn't the right way to phrase it...maybe they were just being sensitive to not put too much of that sound...

by the way, i loved Eddie on the keys and SH covering guitar...

SH's guitar on "Love Walks In" from Live Without a Net is classic...

Um...what exactly were Jump and I'll Wait, then? How about Secrets? Speed metal?

They didn't do Dreams live much because it's a bitch to sing live, or so Sammy thought back then. Now for some reason, he does it. They did it every night on the 2004 tour. And Sammy did it pretty much every night on his 2002 tour with Roth.

Dreams is one of the best Hagar era tracks they penned. Pretty keys yes but that aside a killer tune if there ever was one. So addictive. Good lyric too! After Montrose and solo work Hagar finally proved to the majority that he was one of the best vocalists going around (and remains so too!).

The Whiskey clip is brilliant - pure display of the energy and passion that existed back then for this band.

I was gutted they couldn't get their shit together for a new studio album back in 2004 for the re-union with Hagar. I liked the 3 tracks featured on the Greatest Hits discs - Up for Breakfast was shite but the other two were good, It's About Time was like a left over from the speedier numbers off OU812 to my ears and full of promise!

"Dreams" is a song by Van Halen released in 1986 from the album 5150. It was the second single from that album, and it reached #22 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart that year. "Dreams" also appeared on the soundtrack to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie almost 10 years later, which introduced Van Halen to a new generation of potential fans. "Dreams" was written during the Hagar era of the band and has become a staple at concerts. It was performed in all tours featuring Sammy Hagar, including the most recent Hagar reunion tour. Even the Gary Cherone-headed tour supporting Van Halen III featured the song in their set-list. The song was also used to close the 2004 Democratic National Convention, played after the acceptance speech of John Kerry. It was also used as the campaigns theme song at rallies across the country in 2004. The song's melodic and inspirational theme has proved to be popular with fans judging by the amount of applause that the band receives on the initial notes.

Eddie Van Halen played both guitar and keyboards on the studio version of this song. During live performances on the 5150 tour, Eddie Van Halen played the keyboards and would switch to the guitar during the first solo. On later tours, he would play guitar only, while the keyboard piece was either played "off-stage" by a hired performer (such as Alan Fitzgerald of Night Ranger during the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Tour), or pre-recorded material was used. Granted, Wikipedia isn't always the most accurate source of info, but I thought I'd pass it along.

Since Hagar was so opposed to singing DLR songs when he joined the band, I find it odd they'd drop ANYTHING from 5150 on that tour when they basically only had one album to pull from, especially one of the most popular and anthemic songs on the record. Could be they just cut it from the Live Without A Net video because they weren't happy with the performance or something.
