David Lee Roth is one of the last GREAT frontmen in rock & roll alongside other great legendary frontmen like Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Jim Morrison, Robert Plant & Steven Tyler as well as being a former member of one of the last great rock & roll bands of the 70's & of all time Van Halen who made it on their music, their shows, their image & their attitude alone before the advent of MTV. DLR has had his ups & downs as a solo artist after leaving a hugely successful influential rock band like VH just like other solo artists from legendary rock bands like Ringo Starr & Robert Plant with his only true solo masterpiece being EEAS back in 86 while he has released mostly mediocre solo albums ever since Dave has continued to be the legendary performer with generations of fans to this day so whatever you might think of DLR, he's still rocking after all these years. BTW, I think it would be great if TNN would give DLR his own late night/talk variety show which would be similiar to Howard Stern, David Letterman in the 80's, the first 5 years of SNL since he would be the first rock legend to have his own show telling jokes, doing his VH/DLR classics, other rock, pop & soul classics, interviewing celebrities from the worlds of music, sports, movies & politics, but I don't expect it to happen because TV executives like the ones at TNN can't think outside the box.

That would be a TV show worth watching..................and not one mention of feet...BRAVO!

Why would I mention my passionate fetish for long luscious legs & sexy sensuous feet on beautiful women anyway when I'm talking about rock legend DLR? I think it's CRAZY that TNN excutives wouldn't even consider giving Dave his own late night talk/variety show considering it's known as the first network for men especially with all of his legendary machismo that was in full force that MILLIONS of fans saw live during his VH days.

How I wish things would've worked out between Ed and Dave in '96. I would've really loved an album full of songs like "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic". I loved all of the Van Halen lineups through the years, but the original lineup is my favorite!

DLR can still rock the house down after all these years just as much as other legendary frontmen like Jagger Daltrey & Tyler which is why he is the last great frontman in rock. The reason why you will never see a legendary rocker like David Lee Roth get his own talk/variety show on any TV network is because he would offend the sensitive souls of the left & the right.

Roth was a great frontman, but is he has good as he was???? I haven't seen him live since the "Skyscraper" tour. The reports on the internet are mixed.

I wouldn't say he was the last great frontman either.
There have been some good ones since his heyday. Off the top of my head, Axl Rose, Gary Cherone, and Kid Rock come to mind.

DLR is one of the last great frontmen in rock because the millions of fans that saw him live during his VH days(like myself) knows he is the last of his kind after Jagger, Daltrey, Plant & Tyler. Whatever your definition is for David Lee Roth not being as good as he was back during his Van Halen days is for your interpretation only which should also apply to Jagger, Daltrey, Plant & Tyler. BTW, you have to be insane if you think Gary Cherone is a great frontman whether that be during his Extreme days or his VH days.

If you are talking live frontmen, then there are many left.

I know Sammy Hagar is a great frontman besides being a great artist in his own right before & after VH. Dee Snider could have been a great frontman in the same leagues as Jagger, Daltrey, Morrison, Plant, Tyler & Roth since he had showmanship & bad ass attitude. TS became known as an 80's rock band for the MTV generation with DS above other frontmen in rock atthe time like Bret Michaels, Vince Neil & Jon Bon Jovi which isn't saying too much IMO.

David Lee Roth should have his own television show on the cable network Spike since it's known as the network for men with lots of beautiful babes & no political correctness with lots of his in your face attitude, DLR is the last great frontman in rock without a doubt because of his showmanship & his bad ass attitude during his Van Halen days because what came after like Vince Neil & Jon Bon Jovi is a joke!!!

Dave and Eddie was the stuff of legend, and it would be great if these two could start to get on again. But your talking 2 really big ego's there.

Gotta agree with Voldermort on the EGO front! Wouldnt a TV show fuel Dave's already expanded Ego tenfold and the world cant be doing with that. The guy's an a**hole and cant sing, but he could certainly perform on stage. Which brings me nicely to my next point ... I think Justin Hawkins of The Darkness is showing a lot of potential in the frontman stakes - love or loathe them you CAN'T ignore them - good on em!

I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing DLR in Glasgow in Feb and I hope he kicks my f*****g ass for doubting his abilities, but I regrettably think that won't be the case!

David Lee Roth was one of the greatest frontmen of all time.......with that being said, I still think frontmen like Paul Stanley are still out there kickin' it and doin' a fucking great job!! So...your statement is true...but not totally.......

I just watched a Van Halen concert in LA, from the Diver Down tour. A friend of mine had a bad copy of it from somewhere. I would have to agree with Neil Zlozower in the recent Van Halen: The Early Years video: DLR is the greatest frontman ever.

I had never seen him in concert, but based on what I saw... he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. I had never seen a performer command the audience like he did ... they were loving every minute of it. He was entertaining like no other. His singing wasn't the greatest, but I got into it. His talking to the crowd (schtick) was very entertaining. I got into it.

Plus, watching Ed, Alex and Mike... there was definitely a magic there. I haven't seen that kind of magic in a LONG time. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime kinda things. It's like the rivalry, the competition, the tension brought out the best in all parties, and the public was served a cocktail like no other!

dave was great when he was with vh. After that it was down hill fast. A couple of good songs on a couple of ok albums. He found a couple of great guitar players right after vh which helped me tolerate him some. I think his ego wouldnt let him work "with" anyone and his desire to be different led to obscurity. I saw his show shortly after he left vh, it was a joke. He had some damm african bongos on stage or somthing it was terrible. out of hundreds of concerts this is the only one i remember leaving early. I saw him on the sam and dave tour and he was damm good. I thought he had finally figured out that he needed to give his fans what they want, until i picked up this new album of his "diamond dave". Its a joke. If you havent heard it pick up a copy they are real cheap. I got mine for about 3 bucks. listen to it and tell me that he is the last great rock front man.

Well DLR was a truely amazing frontman and has shown signs of greatness since.. DLR Band for One..
But Robert Plant for example has toned down significantly since his zepplin days partly cause he's not upto screaming his throat off anymore so he's matured a bit.
Other greats must include David Coverdale, Dio, Tyler, Danny Bowes of Thunder, Rodger Daltry.. Great front men.
Some have aged well and can still rock the house down, others have matured and calmed down alot on Stage.
Personally i think DLR is a true one-off and great but i feel he's trying to be 21 which for him doesnt work too well..

I think some fans are expecting way too much from Dave which is ridiculous since he isn't the same person he was during his VH days but he's still a great performer in his own right as well as being a rock legend of the highest degree.

I agree that David Lee Roth was great but the bigtime went to his head. Sammy Hagar brought out a new image for the group. The latest guy they have now sucks..... Van Halen is my idol.
