Eddie Van Halen's introduces signature "Frankenstein" sneakers
Fans who have long admired of Eddie Van Halen's striped "Frankenstein" sneakers are in luck -- Van Halen is finally introducing the new EVH Brand Signature Striped Sneakers. He announced the official footwear on the Van Halen Fans Newsletter, and explained the red, white, and black sneakers based upon the design on his legendary early '80s Kramer guitars are now online at evhgear.com.
Van Halen explained why he decided to finally market the sneakers to the general public: "So many people would ask me, where can I get a pair of those? After hearing that for about 15 years, I figured they were something that people obviously wanted, so making them available and official seemed like a natural progression."
In addition to the classic red Frankenstein theme, the shoes are also available in white with black stripe theme, "which pays tribute to the guitar Eddie rewrote the rules with in 1978 and black with yellow stripes, which pays homage to the guitar that (he) displays on the back cover of Van Halen II."
All of the sneakers are available in both high and low top versions, with Van Halen's "5150." printed on the spine. To order, log on to evhgear.com.
Van Halen -- along with David Lee Roth -- are planning their first studio sessions in 24 years. Van Halen admits that although he's always making music -- that hardly means he's always writing songs: "I'm not like a jingle writer who can just crank out the hits, so to speak. I need to sit down and really almost get to a state of mind where things just come. That's what kinda makes it exciting -- it's like, 'Wow, I wonder what lurks in the plumbing today?"
