German Ratings Site Adds Fuel to “Guitar Hero: Van Halen” Rumor
4/20/09, 3:19 pm EST

Guitar Hero: Van Halen was included on a list posted on the German Voluntary Monitoring Organization of Entertainment Software Website, or the tongue-twisting “Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle” as it’s called over there, 1Up reports. The USK is the ratings board that determines whether games are suitable for kids. The site has since pulled the GH: VH listing, but a screen cap over at 1Up provides the evidence. Activision, the makers of the Guitar Hero franchise, have yet to confirm a game devoted to Eddie Van Halen and Co. is on the way, but the posting adds fuel to rumors that such a title is in the works.

As Rock Daily previously reported, Guitar Hero: Van Halen is expected to be the third GH installment dedicated to one artist, following Aerosmith and Metallica, who released their game last month. GH: VH would ensure that Activision has a new product on shelves later this year to give MTV Games/Harmonix’s The Beatles: Rock Band a bit of competition. Since Activision hasn’t confirmed the game exists, they haven’t let on whether such a title would feature all three lead singers — David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Gary Cherone — or both bassists Mike Anthony and Wolfgang Van Halen. Additionally, no word whether it would just feature songs spanning the band’s whole career or just the Diamond Dave era.

While the Van Halen listing was removed from the German site, a game with the title Guitar Hero Smash Hits has since been posted, which could be the Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits that has been rumored as well. Activision is also preparing to release DJ Hero into the suddenly flooded, billion-dollar music video-game market, although that game’s release has already run into a battle with a competing title, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ. No potential release date for the Van Halen Guitar Hero game was listed, but the USK site did indicate it would be available for both PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

(WTF - It's the only VH news out there. This place is becoming a ghost town.)
