It's time. The day before opening kickoff is good to jump start predictions for the highly anticipated 2009 NFL season. Same as last year, out of all the games being played, pick 4 games of your liking, plus an upset pick. We'll tally the total overall records at the end of the season between everyone making their predictions.

Looking over the Week 1 schedule, their are many tough match ups right out the gates that should cause serious thought and second guessing. What a Week 1 it is shaping up to be. Let the games begin.

NFL WEEK 1

Thursday, September 10th; 8:30

Tennessee @ Pittsburgh:

Hard to against the Super Bowl champs in this one, esp. since the Steelers have been rock solid opening up the season recently, esp at home, in front of a frenzied crowd celebrating an NFL record 6th Championship season. This isn't Week 15 of 2008 anymore, and the Titans will have to face a healthy, better overall Steelers team on the road. Last year the Steelers had to go through hell and back to get to Tennessee for home field. Things will be different, and with the loss of Haynesworth in the middle, look for Pitt to have a strong day running the football. Plus, the Terrible Towel incident will be fresh in our minds, which should make it an early playoff atmosphere. Defense forces at least 3 turnovers. Steelers by 16.

Sunday, September 13th; 1:00

Miami @ Atlanta

Kansas City @ Baltimore

Philadelphia @ Carolina

Denver @ Cincinnati

UPSET: Considering Cincinnati won only 4 games last season, and Denver had a meltdown to miss the playoffs and the loss of their franchise QB, many eyes will be on a rookie head coach and with the play of Kyle Orton (IF he plays), who was terrible in the pre-season. Not really sure if they qualifies as an upset pick (we'll find out) considering Cinci should be better in all fazes, esp since Cornhole Palmer will be back to form if he stays healthy, while Rookie Rey Maualuga should bolster that defense. Look for Ochocinco to re-emerge as a threat to the league. Bungles by 10.

Minnesota @ Cleveland

N.Y.J @ Houston:

Houston is a team that could FINALLY over take a team like Jacksonville in their division, and possibly push strong for a Wild Card this year. Andre Johnson is a BEAST, and if Shaub could stay healthy for once, then this offense is going to explode and start to run off some W's. A tough division to play in, but Houston has been on the rise for many years. This should be their breakout. Sanchez will struggle early, esp opening up his career on the road against a good team. Houston by 5.

Jacksonville @ Indianapolis

Detroit @ New Orleans

Dallas]@ Tampa Bay

Even though I think Tampa will have a better season this year, and will be a team to watch in the next couple seasons, they are simply not there yet. Leftwhich should win them some close games, but something tells me that Quarterback situation isn't over, and it will mess with the phcye of the offense under a new head coach. Tampa is a 7-9 team this season, but could re-emerge and win some tough games. Dallas has deep talent, and they always start fast in the month of September & October. It's December that's the problem. Romo, Witten and the offense should have a good day, but Tampa is a tough place to play. Still, Dallas dominates. Dallas by 21.

4:15

San Francisco @ Arizona

Washington @ N.Y.G

St.Louis @ Seattle

Bulger has been a blow up doll back there under center for St.Louis for quite some time now. St.Louis is hoping their offensive line finally pans out, and atleast attemps to protect Bulger. Steven Jackson needs to have a good year to get this team to at least .500. Seattle is my pick to win the West and should have a comeback year. Injuries got the best of them last year. Hasselback is going to love Houshmenzadah, esp in the red zone. Seattle is one of the toughest stadiums to play in the NFL, and St.Louis is just a BAD team. Seattle by 17.

Sunday Night
Chicago @ Green Bay

Monday Night (2)

7:00
Buffalo @ New England

10:15
San Diego @ Oakland

Minnesota @ Cleveland Browns winning this one, Vikings have sucked playing outdoors for years... Brett doesnt help and starts throwing interceptions... ( okay dreaming here... )
Vikings 24-7...

N.Y.J @ Houston: ZZZZZ

Houston is a team that could FINALLY over take a team like Jacksonville in their division, and possibly push strong for a Wild Card this year. Jacksonville @ Indianapolis Payton comes to play... 35-21 Colts

Detroit @ New Orleans Detroit shines in this one... breaks the losing streak.

Dallas]@ Tampa Bay Dallas wins by 14

Tough game... I would not call this an upset if the Bears win... packers will be lukcy to be 9-7 this year, if ALL GOES right... the Packers new 3-4 defense might be suspect early..
I am still picking the PACK to win in the renewal BEARS PACKERS series... PACK 24-21

Monday Night (2)

Buffalo @ New England EASY WIN for the PATS 35-21... TO will get his catches... but PATS win easy.

HAHA Weasel my ASS! :P It was tough picking an upset into a new season than picking a clear cut favorite. Either is unpredictable until we see what we got with teams on the bubble who need to win now. Denver on paper has a winnable team, and with Cincinnati being as embarrassingly bad over the years, even when Palmer was under center, then I think it's a worthy upset pick, but again a tough judgment call since Denver might be on a downward spiral considering their offseason. 8)

Dude...are you nuts? You do realize that Denver traded away Jay Cutler and now has Kyle Orton as their QB, right? Brandon Marshall has ZERO interest in playing for McDaniel and it doesn't even matter, because he has nobody to throw him the ball, and I'm sure he'll end up suspended again. Also, they have a rookie, unproven running back and no defense. You can't seriously think that "Denver on paper has a "winnable" team"! Denver blows and may actually finish behind the Raiders this year! I don't see Denver winning more than 5 games, tops!

I know man & I agree with everything you have said and I feel the exact same way that Denver is a team that won't win more than 6 games. That's why I said they have a winnable team "on paper" which is my point. If teams looked as good as they have on paper, then Dallas would of won the last 3 Super Bowls, and N.E in the early 2000's wouldn't of won 1. Cleveland, on paper, is a winnable team also since they are all professionals, and we all know damn well they won't win many this year. Denver OR Cleveland could surprise though, who knows.

Fuck Cleveland. Mangini is a fucking moron, and their fans will figure it out pretty quickly! Braylon Edwards went from looking like a stud receiver two seasons ago to not being able to catch a fucking pass last season! Any time your head coach isn't disclosing who the starting QB is (Even thought The Plain Dealer said it's Quinn) because he seriously thinks it gives him some sort of advantage against the competition, you know you're in trouble! Magina would fuck up a free lunch and ask for change! Those dumb fucks in Cleveland were dopey enough to run Belichick out of town, so I hope they have fun with Mangina!

So so first half. Offense started off slow and got destroyed at the line of scrimmage, but picked it up and got into a nice rythm at the end of the half. I thought defense was stellar and was the victim of being on the wrong side on some bad calls by the refs. (Not one of their best nights, calling Max Starks on a forearm, James Harrison gets strangled and nothing, also a bad call on the Polamalu PI, one of the worst I've seen.. sick PICK by Troy BTW.)

Running game needs to get going and take pressure off Ben but he's looking good the last couple drives. Nice penetration & block on that FG attempt and great performace overall by the Special Teams. Collins is finding his match ups and completing. We are getting to him but he's being a savvy veteran.

Pittsburgh should make the right adjustments and bring more heat, it's all about match ups. Bad breakdown before half. Pump fakes are working to a tee for both QB's and manipulating the defense. Overall, both teams are showing good things, and some bad.. which is expected. Things should open up 2nd half. Hope Troy's okay, if he can't make it out the gates, we are in trouble.

Prog already got 2 turovers and a sack with Pittsburgh's D, but also 7 against. Prog's sitting good. I called 3 turnovers for the D, and there's 2.

I think Tenn. has 3 sacks, 2 picks...Pretty much a wash so far.

That's a REALLY good thing to hope for if you're a Steelers fan. Polamalu is a STUD player, and Pittsburgh's defense becomes FAR less good without the guy.

Not good news, Out for game. Need productivity from depth, Tyrone Carter. Fischer will sniff him out and go after him. D-line needs to step up with pressure. Supulveda is a beast.

Worse news is that it's a knee! By the way, if you want to keep blown calls by the refs, they should have called that dope Hoke on Pittsburgh (or whatever his name is) for 15 yards for taking his helmet off. That supposed to be an automatic call in the NFL, and it wasn't called, and the very next play, the Steelers recovered a fumble on!

I said the same thing. He immediately put his hat back on. Not a call to make at that point in the game after major blown calls as it is.

He certainly doesn't look good, but Ben is what he is...a game manager. He's a guy who usually throws for about 17 TD's per season (with only one season that was far better than that). Ben could snap his knee and it wouldn't be nearly the blow to Pittsburgh that losing Polamalu would be. I think Polamalu is the best defensive player in the entire NFL!

I couldn't disagree more. I don't even disagree with the calls you pointed out that were bad calls. That said, all of those calls were judgement calls, and officials fuck up all the time. A guy removing his helmet, is NOT a judgment call. It's an automatic unsportsman conduct call, and there is ZERO judgment to be made! The helmet comes off, it's 15 yards, period, end of story!

He's definitely standing in their and delivering, finding the open area's against a soft zone. The Steelers are mixing it up with blitzing, but also dropping their best pass rushers in pass coverage. Collins is getting the protection he needs. He's just playing smart and keeping his team in the game. Under neath is expected to be open.

No, that call against Polamalu was horrid, if anything it was offensive pass interference. Troy was playing the ball and had perfect coverage.

Dude...whether you agree with the call or not, it doesn't change the fact it's a judgment call. The larger point, is the penalty you're bitching about didn't even count, because there was a penalty against the Titans on the same play, so it was a do-over! Bitch about penalties that affected your towel boys... not about a penalty that didn't have one single affect on the game!
