Susan Boyle-remember her?New single = a Rolling Stones cover

Postby SusieP » Mon Sep 14, 2009 7:04 am

A Brit paper reports that her first single will be Wild Horses - and they posted a link to the Perez Hilton site.

She sounds a bit too shrill for my taste.
And she makes it sound like it's from Les Miserables.

I think she sounds fantastic! Her "Le' Miz" style and sound is not unlike those of Celtic Women. She sounds like she has had vocal training and been singing professionally for years.... knowing that she hasn't...her natural gift of voice and ability is remarkable.

Wonder who chose this song for her?
I think it's an unusual choice.

I just don't hear that. Sorry.

For me, the Celtic Women [I have listened to them since Gunbot raved about them] have pure voices which are not shrill when they soar to those high notes.

This sounds so much more beautiful to my ears.

It's GB's favourite LIsa Kelly by the way.

I have purchased their music and listened to Celtic Women for a long time.....I agree that Susan's voice may not be as polished as theirs but as I said, considering she hasn't had years of training to smooth it all out I think she does a great job. Her voice isn't perfect but thats part of the appeal...she's not trained and polished, just natural. I listened to it with headphones and although not as smooth as Celtic Women I didn't find it to be " shrill" and I do hear purity in her voice.....but we can agree to disagree on how we hear it. 8)

It should be quite interesting if the song choices are as unexpected as this one.

I must admit, I just expected Simon Cowell & Co to play it safe and just bung together a load of 'Songs from the Shows.'
I never would have guessed they would choose a Rolling Stones song!

Bloody Hell - the second single could be All Along The Watchtower or something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it will be interesting to see what the other song choices were now. lol. They did pick my fave Rolling Stones song, though, and I think, although the style is different she did put emotion into the song. Heck, her voice is a lot more pure sounding then Mick Jaggers is.

pure is definitely not a word I would use to describe Mick Jagger's voice.

Not sure what word IS appropriate, actually.

I can't think of a good word to describe Joe Cocker's voice either, but I've always liked his music.

I think maybe 'pickled' is the best word for him. I like his voice - but he has drunk more alcohol than the whole of his home town, I think.

Interesting choice of song, but the arrangement works with her vocal style very well. I'm impressed.
I'd say she's a little strained on the top notes in a few places, rather than shrill, but I can live with it.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

I found this version by Susan very boring. Couldn't listen to it all. Not a good song choice at all. While she might have a good voice she needs to not do the Stones.

Good song, beautiful voice. Nice to see that those behind the desk haven't produced the shit out of her, leaving a robot vocal in place. best thing about this vocal is the fact you can hear the emotion and the strain....great stuff.

Exactly! I was afraid they would overproduce her too and take away her own unique qualities. I'm glad that they just let her be natural and sing from the heart.

On the higher notes I can hear some strong compression and perhaps a bit of vocal processing to give it more youthful sound. But she sounds awesome. wow..

I liked it! :D I think picking a song so totally unexpected and doing a completely different arrangement was brilliant. Loved the piano as well. Yes, it does sound a little Broadway, but that's her style isn't it? I do agree the song dragged a bit, would like to hear her sing something more up tempo.
