...and by that I mean what was the new wave of prog rock that hit after the NWOBHM in the mid to late 80s, of which Marillion were the standard bearers. However there were so many other fantastic bands. Here is a great video from IQ recorded in 2007 playing the title track from their 1985 album.

Where's prog rocker when you need him?

Don't know enough about this genre to list much. Closest I come to it is Rush, Yes and ELP. Not even sure if those count.

Are you serious? ELP and Yes are two constants in every "Top 5/10/25 Prog Bands" list.

However, when I saw "old school" I instantly though of the '70s, not the '80s neo-prog movement of which IQ is considered a part of (though, like Marillion and Twelfth Night, they started playing together years earlier, in the '70s).

Yeah I thought the same, and I guess my choices so far have reflected that Oh well. I do love Marillion. My prog tastes for the most part though jump right over the early 80s stuff outside of prolly Ryche and Marillion. I go straight from 60s/70s prog to the newer prog like DT, Porcupine Tree, and the like. I really do need to try and expand my 80s prog horizons though, cause what I've heard I enjoy.

I'm a horrible prog rocker.

I'm almost just like Ehwmatt. I have nearly every album by Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Camel, and all that lot.

However, I too jump over most of the 80s stuff outside of King's X, Queensryche and Marillion. I have nearly every album from both of them, and Marillion is one of my all-time favorites, but there's little else from the 80s prog-wise that I've listened to extensively.

Then I listen to tons of Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Muse, Coheed & Cambria, Pure Reason Revolution, Radiohead, Tool, Riverside, Pain of Salvation, and all the top modern prog bands.... but not much IQ, Pendragon, or Arena, or any of those guys.

I know, I'm horrible.

At least this could serve as a wake-up call to get myself more involved in Neo Prog haha.

I'll share some of my favorite modern prog for you guys though. I know it goes against the thread title but most everyone's been through the classics a time or two.
