I think most of you only heard me play on studio recordings. Or perhaps you haven't heard me at all

Here's a clip form a DVD I did with a one off project called Viteffe. It's a tribute band dedicated to a famous Dutch rock band called Vitesse. We did one gig and recorded that for a DVD and double cd set. Also, this was broadcasted live on national radio and streaming on the Internet.

This was actually the first time I edited video for DVD.

On this song, Sucker For My Telephone, we have 2 original Vitesse members guesting on bass and keyboards. Amongst the other guys in the band is drummer Rob Boshuijzen, who will play on my upcoming solo album.

I think this is great. From a search around this seems to be the only decent video from that show. Never heard of Vitesse, but if you can be bothered I would like to know something about them and if there is anywhere I could check out or possibly buy their music?

Hi Duncan,

It was a band that existed from 1975-1994. They've gone through a LOT of line up changes with only the singer/drummer, Herman van Boeyen, being in all lineups.

The song you heard wasn't actually from Vitesse, but from a spin off band called "The Raiders of the Last Corvette" (later: The Raiders), which consisted of 3 of the 4 Vitesse members, Otto and Rudy being 2 of them. The guitarist, Carl Carlton, eventually ended up with Robert Palmer.

The music of Vitesse started out funky, then turned into rock, then into pop. The rock period is the most interesting. But the hits came when they started to get poppy. After the first few hits they had no luck and things went off hill, with drugs getting the enemy for van Boeyen.

There are some clips to be seen on www.hermanvanboeyen.nl under mp3. It's in Dutch, but it's pretty easy to navigate. There are some clips of the pop and rock period.

I will post more on YT later, but I'm a little busy right now.

i cant understand a word that bass player says!!! its like keith richards underwater.. something about
water putting out his flame.. .. i love it !!!

the ending solo is absolute genius.. WOW!!!

starting at 4:00 ,, and then the sweetest of all notes at 4:20.. mmmmm.. sounds like perfect bends.. ! just big thumbs up..

Half of the time I have no idea what I'm going to play when a solo piece comes, so it's mainly improvisation. The same with this one. I never heard the song until about 3 days before the gig

I was very please with most of the stuff we did on the concert.

We only got to rehearse twice for about 3 hours and everyone was a complete stranger to eachother before those rehearsals (incl. the basic band), so I'm quite pleased at how tight it does sound.

Next year we're going to do a one off follow-up gig in which we're not going to play the Vitesse hits, but mainly b-sides and rarities. Should be fun!

Gotta admit...at the very start I didn't think I was going to like it since the singer sounds kinda Dylan...but I gave it a chance and I really dig it! Very cool groove! and your solo bit was cool too!

He's not really a singer, more a bassplayer who every now and then likes to sing. On the Raiders album (which was never released) he sounds much better, but then again, that was like 25 years ago

This song was written by him and since he was one of our special guests we thought it would be nice to feature one of his original songs.

Between the singer and the snare drum, I thought it felt like more of a Rolling Stones/Keith Richards thing.

Well that explains it....he's not bad, just hard to understand at times!!
