My son called me up today. Said "Mom... do we have any relatives living in Allentown, PA?" Uh...nope. Close-ish, but not Allentown. "Anyone named "Michelle Gigt?"... nope.
"Well she just sent me $2100 in moneygrams, mailed to me by Federal Express". It was a handwritten envelope, from this chick living in Allentown, PA.
I said Bullshyt. That's a scam. NOBODY gets free money...and even if ya do, you are taxed for it.
Sure enough, there's info on the net outlining this. Mysterious packages delivered by Fedex, containing Money Orders, all individually under $1000, but usually including several. No sooner had Alex signed for these then he was called by someone with a phone number a mile long (and non-European/American accent) asking him if he had received the package, and would he please cash them, send 1900 of it to Istanbul, Turkey, and keep $200 for his trouble.
Alex laughed his ass off. Told him it was already turned into the police. *click*.
The bugger is from what I'm reading, the FBI will do little here. There's just too many of them out there. IF you are dumb enough to cash the suckers, and god forbid, SPEND any of the money... you are liable for all of it back to the bank. Heads up. Some amazing ass jerks out there.... willing to spend $10 a pop, with your personal information taken off careerbuilder or monster, and attempts to cash in on your desperation for a job and income.
Note: Pull your resume's off Careerbuilder/Monster or at minimum HIDE your personal info until asked for it by a reputable employer.
