Anybody heard any particulars on this?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Due to unforeseen personal matters, the third leg of Def Leppard’s North American Tour, set to begin on October 22nd, has been cancelled. "We know how truly blessed we are to have such committed fans," said the band in a statement. "That's why we've agonized over this decision. Even if just a single concert, we don't take cancelling shows lightly, but unfortunately life’s commitments need to be the priority."

Joe's voice is probably toast.

Before canceling, Def Leppard had one the top 20 shows on tour, according to information from the trade publication Pollstar. The band was taking in nearly $700,000 a show.

Damn... that would be hard to cancel at $700k per show. The Def boys need to take some lessons from Neal Schon on how to use YouTube to keep from cancelling a tour. Hire some Def tribute band singer for $10k a show and send the rest to Joe while he is taking it easy in the Bahamas.

All I know is their official forum is in meltdown mode. Speculation all around from low ticket sales, to a member being in rehab, to the band breaking up, to Joe's voice being toast, etc. Someone claims they only sold 900 tickets to the 10,000 seat Verizon Wireless Arena in New Hampshire (there's no way that's right). Too bad, because I was thinking about going to Nashville and/or Louisville in November.

I just bought tickets to a triple bill show with Def Leppard, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. In the event that one of the bands cancel, Guns N Roses w/Axl Rose will be the backup.

I'd suffer Guns N Roses to see Van Halen and Aerosmith.

They should call pinch hitter extrordinaire Jeff Scott Soto.

Andrew,

The Def Lep forum is ridiculing melodicrock.com again, claiming it's not a "credible site" and that they still don't believe the information you posted today about the reasons for canceling the tour.

Here's where it starts:

I think you've gone over there in the past and might want to do it again. I jumped in and put in my two cents, but those clowns don't want to believe that their beloved band would cancel due to poor ticket sales.

Right, that's why they canceled two shows in August. They had booked about 25 more for the end of October and November, but just canceled all of them late last week right before they were supposed to start. Said it was due to "unforeseen personal reasons."

Yeah, I know this cancellation is different. They should really just say why. Speculation and rumors are always worse!! I knew they were planning a 3rd leg and it was just cancelled though. I caught them in august a few shows after the ones they cancelled due to vivian's dad.

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing to see "unforeseen personal reasons" as the official party line if it was in fact low ticket sales. I was going to go the the Nashville show that was canceled because of the death in Vivian's family, and then I was going to go to Nashville and Louisville in November. Guess I'm 0-for-3 on Lep shows this year.

Oh so their cancelations included the places they rescheduled too??? That doesn't make sense for low ticket sales, does it? That was part of the first tour so you would think they would have sold enough of those. Seems weird to me. And were they doing the 3rd leg without Poison? Now that could definitely affect ticket sales if not I would guess.

Yeah, they had to "postpone" Nashville and Birmingham when Vivian's dad died, and they ended up canceling Birmingham but had rescheduled Nashville for these new November dates. And then it got wiped out again when they bailed out on the whole leg of the tour.

And you're right - the third leg was without Poison. It was just Def Leppard, Cheap Trick, and Phil Collen's side band Man-Raze. Maybe Poison was a bigger draw than people thought, and folks just didn't want to pay $125 to see Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and another band they've never heard of.

That's another thing - the Leps still charge pretty ridiculous prices for their shows. The best seats are always at least $125. It's partially justifiable when the bill includes two other big-name bands, but when the bill gets weaker people probably won't pay that much.
