This may sound callous, but

Why is this girl getting special attention?

http://www.cleveland.com/news/index.ssf ... ost_2.html

It's a tragic story indeed, but any one who has lived in Cleveland for 2 weeks knows that it is not a bike-friendly city! It's both dangerous given the nature of our streets and impractical given our weather and other things. This is like the fifth story about it, and truthfully, if anyone's at fault here, it's the tragically deceased!

Cleveland.com wrote:
Stephen Bingham, her father, said he wants to prevent similar deaths. He said his daughter was almost certainly in the truck driver's blind spot when she was hit. She was not wearing a helmet, he said, but it would not have prevented her death because the truck struck her in the midsection.

The driver faces possible criminal charges, police said. (Why? my comment)

In short, anyone who thinks they are going to get around and live and function in a city like this with just a bike is fooling themselves and is a complete buffoon. The only reason they are giving this more attention than any one else who has died on the roads is because of the liberal bent to the story. Such bullshit. One story was enough, I'm tired of hearing about it.

It's tragic, yes, but why would the driver face possible criminal charges if the girl was in his blind spot?

She was run over by a 2005 Peterbilt shortly before 9 a.m. at East 21st Street and Prospect Avenue.

The truck driver did not stop, but police found him a short time later on East 40th Street, thanks to information provided by witnesses.

I guess they need to determine whether or not he knew he had hit her. I'm guessing, or hoping that he didn't.
