There ain't no way in hell I'm getting that flu shot now! I don't care if the odds are one bazillion to one. I'm not gonna risk it. Thanks for the post, V.

Something to think about - I know a lot of people who have told me they won't vaccinate their children for measles because of the minute risk it *might* cause (and that is highly debatable, especially since the ingredient that supposedly causes the damage isn't in the vaccinations). They tend to go a bit quiet when I point out that I *personally* know 2 people made deaf by measles, one who was left brain damaged by it, and one of my cousins died from it. Remeber Helen Keller? Deaf and blind from measles. There may be a minute risk with vaccinations, but there is a hell of a lot bigger risk from the diseases they prevent. Just as long as you remember that you are a hell of a lot more likely to be killed by the flu than you are to get this reaction.

Fuck this vaccination and all of the sheeple who stand out in the rainy cold for 5 hours in a line waiting to get it amongst MANY people. Anyone see the irony there?

Don't actually disagree with you that the hype over 'swine flu' and the pressure to vaccinate is overblown, just pointing out that there is this idea that vaccinations are dangerous because they occasionally (and very rarely) have side effects. If you are in an 'at risk' group, medically speaking, then rather than yelling 'oh shit, look what happened to her, no way' you should consider that the disease is a hell of a lot more dangerous than the vaccination. As for the general public getting flu shots, your choice but personally I don't bother. My grandmother on the hand is at high risk and she gets them every year. I got rubella vaccinations, my male cousins didn't - not such an issue for men as for women. Make your choices based on whether it is appropriate for you to get vaccinated or not, not because of a media beat up story.
Ehwmatt wrote:Don't get me wrong - I think vaccinations for things like polio and Measles are very necessary and worth the risk because the personal benefits AND the public health benefits far outweigh the possible risks. I'm not one of those anti-vaccine quacks.
I just can't believe the media fear and "YOU HAVE TO GET IT!" hype surrounding an untested, rushed out the door vaccine for a virus that for the most part, if you get it, will leave you down and out for 3-7 days and go away quicker than the common cold.
