Would you rather pay 10 bucks for a non-enhanced disc (Despite talk of 4X HD being used for the recordings) or would you rather pay 20 bucks and get the Blu-Ray, plus the second standard disc (if you haven't upgraded yet), along with the extra behind scene footage and what not? One package, no need to check if one is in stock if the other is out, etc.
A lot of Studios are going this route, primarily Disney.
AC-DC's Wal-mart exclusive also used this approach.

depends on the video authoring quality of the disc, not the cameras it was shot with. If the dvd is good quality, just buy it. It it LOOKS like it cost $10, buy the better version. 90% of the behind-the-scenes footage is pretty useless to me (at least for a concert video), so it becomes a question of quality versus price.

For those who say it's an issue of a cheaper price attracting more buyers, If someone can't afford the 20 dollar price but can afford the 10 dollar offering, maybe they shouldn't be spending money on DVDs anyway.

Players still aren't cheap, and I haven't found all that many movies where the increase in quality is all that noticeable. The difference in quality from dvd to Blu-Ray isn't nearly as much as the difference of vhs to dvd. As long as Blu-Ray prices stay high, only the people that have to own the best will spring for it. The rest will be happy with "good enough"

All the blu ray players at Best Buy that are under $200 are "refurbished". F that! The cheapest was $140. I haven't checked other sources. But - Hell no. I will wait with my regular player until prices come down. The blu ray movie prices are starting to drop a little, but I'm not about to blow upwards of $200 for a stupid player. They got me with the regular dvd player in 2000... damn thing was over $250. I still have it and it can't play anything by store bought. The player I have now... $40!!

Best buy is selling a insignia blue ray player for $99 (not a refurb), i was there yesterday, reviews are not bad for this item and ive seen several well known brands for $150 this week. I got a sony blue ray shipped to my door tax included for $160 a year ago....your just not looking in the right places(none of these prices are for refurbed items)

My information was based on an online search, not an in-store search. Obviously inventory will vary from store to store. I was just looking for the "general" state of affairs with this blue ray business which, admittedly, I know nothing about, other than I am not rebuying all my frickin' movies again.
