Remember when she sang?
We have a feeling this must be making the blow from Melrose Place even harder to handle. Ashlee Simpson started her career as a singer, just like big sister Jessica. But she recently decided to end her singing career to be around for her son more. Her new goal is to get deep into acting.
Unfortunately, Ashlee's first big foray into acting didn't really pan out. But we're guessing she's going to be looking for more acting opportunities now that she's done with Melrose Place.
According to a source, "She's reading scripts. Acting is her focus now. If she had an album, she'd have to tour and be away from Bronx. She wants consistency...." It makes sense to us. Acting can be an extremely demanding job, but if it's for a television series, it generally does offer a level of consistency. Whereas if Ashlee was still making music, she would be on tour part of the year. And since hubby Pete Wentz is already on tour part of the year as it is, that wouldn't make much room for family time. Especially since Pete and Ashley have talked about wanting a lot of kids in the future.

What a way to get attention...announce you're giving up a non-existent singing "career" (which consisted of releasing albums noboby bought, singles nobody downloaded, lip-synching on TV and never going on tour) because all of a sudden you're the 25 year-old mother of the year...
HEY!!! LOOK AT ME!!! I'M RELATED TO A FAMOUS PAIR OF BOOBS AND I'M A MOTHER NOW!!! I'M NOT GOING TO SING SO I CAN STAY HOME WITH MY BABY...I MEAN...SO I CAN TAKE MY BABY TO THE SET ON MY NEW ACTING "CAREER" AND HAVE HIS NANNY WATCH HIM...BUT BETWEEN TAKES I'M, LIKE, GOING TO BE AN AWESOME MOM!!

I know you guys don't want to hear this, but her debut album, Autobiography, went triple platinum and she co-wrote every song. The CD was way better than the usual young blond teen singer fare, and, of course, in studio her vocals were helped along. I know this b/c I have a young niece so hear all of these types of singers in that age group. Her second CD was platinum. She was always going to have a limited shelf life b/c of her vocal range.

Meaning she maybe added a lyrical line or two...AND, I'm convinced that some people can have "co-writer" written into their contracts when in reality they contribute zero. I would put money on those "autobiographical" songs being written by 30-something men...

She had reality TV and Family Drama TV (Seventh Heaven) fame...a LOT of parents bought that album for their daughters...
