Just another beautiful day.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8345713.stm

At least seven people have been killed and 12 others injured in a shooting at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, according to US media reports.

One person has been arrested and a second is on the run, ABC news reports. It said the base had been locked down.

NBC News network said the two suspects were in military uniform and that the shooter-at-large was believed to have a high-powered sniper rifle.

Fort Hood, located near the town of Killeen, is a large US military base.

It is not yet clear whether those reported killed and injured are civilians or military personnel.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama had been briefed on the incident.

Army spokesman Lt Col Nathan Banks at the Pentagon told the Associated Press news agency the shootings had begun at about 1330 (1930 GMT) on Thursday at a personnel and medical processing centre at Fort Hood.

He said two shooters had been involved.

The second incident took place at a theatre on the base, he said.

Local congressman John Carter, speaking to NBC News, said gunfire had erupted during a graduation ceremony.

The BBC's Adam Brookes in Washington says there are military police and Swat teams on the scene, and the FBI is on the way from Austin and Waco. Schools in the area have also been locked down.

Funny thing is.....although tragic, we are desensitized about stuff like this. And that's a shame.

"A senior administration official told NBC News analyst Roger Cressey that the suspect who was in custody was an Army major with an Arabic-sounding name."

God, the things that come out of people's mouths. That official needs to be demoted immediately, what an idiotic statement to make.

Infiltrated by the enemy and attacked from the inside, and you guys are worried about "stereotyping"? We don't stand a chance.

Now I've read that it was THREE people involved, not two.

Good god. Not even safe on our own bases.

the shooter killed with that name was a major. That hardly sounds like "infiltration". maybe he already served over there and was against it and decided to fight it through this act. That's not how I define infiltration.

Reports that there were multiple shooters. Kinda sounds coordinated to me, rather than your "maybe" scenario.

Are you new to this country or what? I mean really. You don't know our media by now?? Report things based on hearsay, find out the facts LATER??? They are NOT confirming there were other shooters. They "detained" a couple of others. It was MASS chaos and they are saying they may have just been soldiers running and in the confusion people thought they were shooting. My POINT is that you used the word "infiltration" and that has a meaning that you can not use to describe this situation at this point. I'd say he's a TRAITOR! :P Or he may have SNAPPED and it wouldn't be the first time that happened in the military.

"A military doctor who feared an impending war deployment is believed to be the gunman behind a shooting rampage Thursday afternoon at the Army's Fort Hood in Texas that killed 11 and wounded 31 before the gunman was fatally shot.

Two soldiers were taken into custoy as possible suspects, Lt. Gen. Bob Cone told reporters Thursday evening, though the pair later were released and it isn't clear whether they they were involved in the violence.

Authorities have not identified the gunman publicly, but official sources have named Major Malik Nadal Hasan, a psychiatrist who reportedly didn't believe in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and wanted out of the military before he was set to be deployed overseas."

I'd like to know what the hell this guy was doing in the US Armed Forces?

http://www.scribd.com/NidalHasan

NidalHasan scribbled:

Martyrdom in Islam Versus Suicide Bombing

There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier.

To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause.

Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory.

Their intention is not to die because of some despair.

The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy if you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam.

So the scholars main point is that "IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE" and Allah (SWT) knows best.

This is nothing. They're many types of people in the service; wife beaters, racists, gang bangers. You'd be amazed. I only see this guy giving his interpretation of the word suicide and how it relates to certain actions.

GB, agreed, lots of bad apples in the military as everywhere. Difference I see is he lost it and went on his own personal jihad. That's my opinion until further intel. Of course, it's remotely possible the Nidal Hassan I'm quoting and the shooter are two different people but I doubt it.

Here's a pdf of the Martyrdom paper he was responding to in the quotes above:

"For his rank structure, it'd be highly unlikely for him to live here," Windsor said.

So next time you see a man in Arabic clothing handing out Qurans, Shoot him before he shoots anyone 8)

No, but when he starts yelling Allah Akbar it's open season or else you best get the hell out of the way...

FORT HOOD, Texas – The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC's "Today" show on Friday that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for "God is great!" before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded.

I think at the time he started yelling, people kinda were trying to take cover..... duh!

+1 he had conflicts within himself I'm sure, being Muslim and fighting Muslims. I would think that would be difficult. And yes, being in the military, you are supposed to put country above all else, but people CAN snap and they do. People are people. He was a psychiatrist so asking for help himself would have been a lot more difficult.
