Aerosmith's Joe Perry Says Band Is Looking For New Singer

Examiner.com wrote:Aerosmith's Joe Perry Says Band Is Looking For New Singer

Joe Perry, legendary lead guitarist for the band Areosmith has indicated that the band may be looking for a new singer to replace longtime front man and fellow band founder, Steve Tyler.

Perry made his announcement on Twitter late Monday, indicating that the band is “not splitting up” but “looking for a new singer to work with.” The tweet was made as speculation about the future of lead singer Tyler has grown since the band cancelled its summer tour due to Tyler’s injuries incurred during a fall from the stage.

Joe Perry also spoke on WKXL radio, in Concord, New Hampshire, that Tyler has not communicated with the band regarding his intentions. Instead Perry discovered the singer’s apparent desire to go solo after reading about it online.

The 61-year-old Tyler, who could not be reached for comment, fell off a stage during an August 5th concert in South Dakota, and the band canceled the remainder of its summer tour.

According to Perry’s WKXL interview, "After the tour got canceled, he just kept drifting off and doing other things. We would hear things from different people. He wasn't talking directly to anybody in the band So basically, he just made the announcement that he was taking some time off."

Areosmith has racked up a long history of rock hits and to this point has been one of the longest running rock acts. Time will tell how well a new singer will be received by fans.

Arnel can play this card when he asks Neal for a contract and a pay raise.

Hasn't stated intentions... needs time off... did not officially quit... band intends to go on with or without him without an answer...

I think I've seen this movie before.

And it doesn't end well! This is far more shocking news to me than Journey. I'm a much bigger Journey fan than Aerosmith fan, but these guys are legendary and have been together FOREVER! Maybe Joe can give Steve a call and form the Perry connection

I don't think that Aerosmith fans will take a 'new singer' in very easily. They were the first "rock" band I was ever into with "Dream On"'s first release in '73. I can't even fathom anyone else but Tyler singing that stuff.

This sucks beyond all. sucks sucks sucks

Aerosmith was my first band... and my son Brian's first band. They were the main act at his first concert. He's stood underneath JMFP as he played at the Hollywood Bowl, he got to reach out and 'touch' Joey as they walked past at Devore.... Brian's devastated to think they are ending, as are all his friends. This is a band that truly had many ages of fans.

I've never been a huge aerosmith fan yet I do like a lot of the music. Dream On is my favorite song ever though by any band from that era and I don't know why since I'm not a huge fan!! Something about those lyrics and the eeriness of it. Especially as I age but I loved it since I was a teen. I know he wrote it when he was young too, which is strange to me.

I couldn't fathom that in the last movie. But.....it was forced on us and hasn't exactly been pretty through the years.

I think he believes that once the lead singer that helped make a band famous leaves the band should close shop.

Well, I guess if there's one thing we've learned from the Journey experience/experiment, it's that NOOOObody's irreplaceable. IF all this speculation turns out to be true, I hope Aerosmith learns from Journey's mistakes. Hopefully Aerosmith will be able to avoid a lot of the mis-cues and missteps made by Journey in the early going.

NOTE TO JOE FLUFFIN' PERRY: Put on a pot of coffee and fire up the computer, you got a whole lotta YouTube watchin' to do.

Wow, what a mess of a band re relationships. Sounds permanent to me. And Tyler's daughter shouldn't be so quick to judge Perry. Tyler just won't communicate and lets it be known he's leaving in other ways. Perry is pissed off and reacting.

Probably this is no less painful than a divorce for all involved ... 40 year relationship in which your professional identity is bound up, ended with no communication ... just sucks for everyone

And I believe it was 40 years with all the same guys, wasn't it? Maybe we have a resident Aerosmith historian can weigh in here and confirm that Aerosmith remained intact with all original members through the years?
