Guilty pleasure modern day pop songs

I'm not much for modern mainstream music, lots of it is garbage, but every once in a while I hear a song that even the anti-establishment curmudgeon in me has to relent and (secretly) play a song on repeat.

Here's mine right now:

Katy Perry - Waking Up In Vegas - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-pUaogoX5o - Same stupid broad that did that "I kissed a girl and I liked it" and "You're hot then you're cold you're in then you're out" songs that are absolutely HORRENDOUS. However, I like this song. Neat instrumentation, great chorus hook, and cheesy ass lyrics.

Lifehouse - First Time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0fKI_FS-4U - Not a brand new song by any means, but only a couple years old. I really like this one.

Let's hear some, no dance song garbage though, let's get some songs with a real melodic hook and at least decent musical performance.

Does it have to be modern?

Hmm, I suppose not, but chances are I've heard a lot of the classic guilty pleasure tunes. I don't know much at all about the modern day stuff, what little there is. But post what you like

I actually like this lifehouse song, even though I find it sad , the lyrics are really moving:

Broken

I really like their album. I saw them live with the Goo Goo Dolls a couple summers ago. They were really good!

The few live videos I've seen of them, their singer sounds a little thin to me. Pitchwise/tone-wise he's spot on, but his producer has fattened his voice up a ton. The Goo Goo Dolls are one of my favorites, I grew up with those fuckers, but man, Johnny Rzenik is a HORRENDOUS live singer. He doesn't go for one single high note and he changes the melodies because of this and kills the momentum of nearly all the songs.

I think Johnny is just losing his voice over time. I loved them live in concert, but by the end he was REALLY struggling! They didn't tour last year, so maybe they are taking a break. They are making a new album though, so I hope this summer I can see them again. It was a fun concert though! And Lifehouse sounded pretty good live to me! I had never heard of them until that day, except for one song on the radio at the time, and I think it's the one you just posted. I bought the album after and I do like it. They fit well with the GGD's, so I can see why they picked them as tour partners. They also had Colbie Caillat open for them, but I'm not a fan of her music. It bores me

You may be right, I just found this video (my least favorite big GGD song I might add): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYjkQKus ... re=related

He's hitting the highs here, 11 years ago. I guess I've never heard old live Dolls material, but I've heard him dodging highs going back to all the stuff I've heard. Looking at my library most of it is from 04+

That's one of my favorites but I hate the movie it was made for  I look at it like this. He, like Joe Elliott, never had great voices to begin with. They were just unique and the songs were good. So over time I think their voices are just suffering. But I still love seeing it live.

YUP. And his notes aren't that high. He avoids them every time.

I thought guilty pleasures were generally things that other people would think are bad? I was all prepared to talk about Disturbia by Rihanna, Forever by Chris Brown, and Paparazzi by Gaga.

My songs had a dance vibe and I posted them, b/c those, to me, are guilty pleasure songs, not all serious love songs.

My guiltiest pleasure is Madonna's Hard Candy album. At first didn't like it, but she went back to her roots and made a great dance music CD. But it's just a great CD made to flow from song to song with great dance beats, retro disco and club dance, you name it. It puts me in a great mood by halfway through. Great long commute CD to take away the stress. Everytime I go to tell someone to buy it they admit they bought it b/c they're secret Madonna fans, and love it.

It's not modern, as in time, but certainly modern as in feel....

Marvelous 3. Love em!

I also dig the first album by the All American Rejects....and a few songs released afterwards by them. Good stuff

I remember Freak of the Week by Marv. 3 and I remember their cover of Reelin in the Years for Me Myself and Irene. Other than that, haven't heard much from them. Freak of the Week was a good tune

Love this guy's voice - it's so distinctive and this song always puts me in a good mood (so I play it alot on my way to work). Don't see him singing country, but this is definitely a crossover to pop.
