Hi, Following the recent posts regarding Hugo being out of Valentine, some of the information posted and mentioned was incorrect. Here is a statement from the remaining members of Valentine with regard to Hugo no longer being part of the band. Gerard and the guys asked me to post this here on their behalf as none of the guys post here on a regular basis, so here you go......looks like Hugo made the decision to LEAVE ...and was most definately not sacked/thrown out/replaced.............
Cheers

Valentine Press Release November 12 2009

It is with great regret we inform you that Hugo is no longer part of Valentine. The band released Soul Salvation last year, the first Valentine release since their debut album back in 1990. The band was overwhelmed with the positive response to the album, and were looking forward to continuing to write and record new material in the future. Valentine played the Lokern Festival in August 2009 to almost 15,000 people and were completely blown away by the reaction. Unfortunately, Lokern was Valentine’s final performance.

Faced with the challenge of finding a singer capable of replacing Hugo and continuing as Valentine, the four remaining members decided after twenty years together that it would be unfair to both themselves and the fans who have supported them loyally to continue without Hugo, who was an integral part of the band. The remaining band members are currently working on a brand new project, which will be announced shortly.

Gerard Zappa had the following to say “We’ll miss Hugo. He made the decision to leave. We were all disappointed, especially as we had been together so long, but for whatever reason he just didn’t want to be part of Valentine any more. We’ve been friends and in bands together for over twenty years. That’s not something to be taken lightly. It’s sad, as it marks the end of a long road together. We all love Hugo and we wish him nothing but happiness in the future. The rest of us have began a new journey that we will tell you about soon”.

Well that is refreshing, a band of brothers that have respect for one another as well as their fans and the class to know that you can't replace intregal members of your band.

I am bummed though, as I love Valentine!

i am not defending journey here, but i think it is a bit different with the level of success they as a band achieved. maybe they felt they still wanted to express themselves musically. of course we've learned thay have seemingly drained their collective creative well and continue to cash in on the glory days.

i'm not a hater!! all my best to hugo.

They could have continued to express themselves musically without calling it Journey, however I agree with the argument that it wouldn't have been the cash cow. In the end, it turns out the cash cow was more important than musical expression.

It's all good Lula, I have my opinions and others have theirs. Has nothing to do with hate.

As they don't have a greatest hits package to push with the name Valentine attached or a catalog of radio hits to pay homage to, I can see them changing their identity and starting fresh.

It looks like Hugo's going to start doing his own thing now which is awesome. And Augeri is taking his spot in a new band with the Valentine boys. Wow.
