Last House on the Left... fucking sick

I just rented this on DVD not knowing at all what it's about and I'm sitting here being treated to two girls that look like they could be about 15 being brutally beaten, raped (for about 5 minutes straight), and whatever the fuk else. I'm not squeamish when it comes to movies, but this is just absolutely sickening. I don't want to see a girl getting fucking raped while she is crying and caked in mud (or in any other circumstances). Fuckin hell. I'm takin this shit right back. What the fuck is wrong with Hollywood these days

I thought that movie was made in the early 70s. Please don't tell me it's been remade - the original was so sick I quit watching after just a few minutes. There's horror and then there's just plain sadism served up as entertainment.

It was remade by Wes Craven - I just went to IGN and supposedly this remake is significantly toned down  . I agree with you on your last sentence - there's a fine line between horror and sadism. They literally showed a girl getting raped for 5 minutes straight. That made me fucking sick to my stomach. I'm all for copious gore, but not that kinda shit. That sickens me.

Nothing compares to the uncut version of the '70s flick I Spit On Your Grave, where a bunch of hillbillies rape a woman over a period of a few hours, and then she gets her revenge by...well, I'd be spoiling it.

That's getting the remake treatment now too.
Good luck getting that past the MPAA ratings board.

Isn't that what Hostel and stuff is about as well?

There is a whole subculture now called "Torture Porn", fun.

I swear - I am so glad I don't have kids because our society scares the shit out of me.

The original didn't, either. It was trimmed to an "R." Lame...

I must say that the remake of The Hills Have Eyes kicked mucho ass, though.

Scariest clip ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vlEavUH9ng

Brought to you by Hollywood, the majority of whom seem to be defending Roman Polanski who drugged, raped, and sodomized a 13 year old girl. I read the victim's court testimony and it makes me sick that he gets a pass because he is considered to be a great director. Wes Craven deserves a boot in his irresponsible ass for shooting that scene and leaving it in the movie. What people see on film and television can have a profound effect on them and this is not what our society needs.

It doesn't take a computer scientist to get "garbage in, garbage out" but the producers financing that filth just don't get it or worse, don't care.

It's all "shock and awe" now. Then you see talking heads bemoaning what happened at Richmond High as if it should be a surprise.

I don't mind Hostel nearly as much. I can see why others would, but at least there's no rape scene in there that I can recall. That's what really bothered me about this movie more than anything. That's just uncalled for. It's one thing to hint at/intimate the rape or even show it briefly and cut to the next scene... it's another to have it filmed from 10 different angles showing the guy mounting her from behind and pounding her while she's caked in mud, blood, and bruises and crying. This was too visceral and real for me.

Won't be seeing that. Rape scenes disturb the hell out of me and should be banned of all Hollywood scripts.

I mean, I've seen movies where they intimate at a rape or show like the beginning of it and in a way kinda make it almost like cartoon violence sorta, like the original Death Wish from the 70s... that was shocking for its time but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as this one. Plus it doesn't go on for like fuckin 7 minutes. Also, as I said in the original post, the girl looks like she's about 16, which makes it all the more bothersome.

Yeah that's just not cool at all. The rape scene in Eye For An Eye with Keither Sutherland was pretty bad too. But like you said, 7 minutes straight of nothing but ripping a young girl apart needs to be banished. Sick people. Shit, I'm so bad with this stuff that I remember at a young age I read a comic that had a 'rape' page (which became controversial) and it wasn't even bad. :x

I've seen Eye for an Eye, I don't remember that part though, but I saw it when it first came out... I was pretty young. There's no way it can be as bad as this. The Hills Have Eyes Two had a rape scene that was pretty controversial two eyars ago and it lasted for like a minute. Granted, it was a mutant hick from West Virginia (worst state in the world) raping the woman, but it was still nowhere near as bad as this

Awe, Matthew and Travis, you guys both give me hope for our younger generations! Being in your early 20's and still being apauled by this violence, is a good thing to hear. They keep saying how video games and viliolent tv and movies are creating a more violent youth, but to see young people having such strong feelings against this, makes me feel more hopeful! (God, I just aged myself big time   )That it's not as damaging as they seem to think it will be. But then you guys are normal, and I'm sure it could have an affect on some. I think there are some things people just don't need to see in graphic detail and rape is definitely one of them. The gang rape in the movie "The accused" with jodie foster was one of the sickest thing I ever saw when I was younger and made an impression on me and I don't have any interest in ever seeing anything like that again. Definitely don't want to see this movie!

No, that's just a term invented by sanctimonious film snobs who can’t bear to see filmgoers actually enjoying a horror film, instead of some overhyped cinema verite arthouse piece of shit.
The term “porn” is a misnomer and a lazy attempt to attach a seedy XXX connotation to a genre where its undeserved, and in so doing, also shaming its supporters.
SAW was the first in a recent batch of films to earn the misnomer "torture porn.”
To date, the series hasn't had a single sex scene.
Are people shown in a variety of torture devices struggling to survive?
Sure.
But drama in its most basic form almost always derives from characters in jeopardy.
So who cares?
These “torture porn” people are just the latest incarnation of the same morality police that targeted Frankenstein and Dracula films in the 30’s, Tales from the Crypt comics in the 60s, and heavy metal music and the Friday the 13/Elm Street series in the 80 and 90s.
In the end, it's all good clean fun.

Best thing is just don't watch things of this nature if your aware of the plot lines. Sometimes though you get something by renting it and are in for the shock of your life. I find people who feed off of this kind of thing decensitize themselves from caring when it happens in real life. I cannot tell Hollywood what to do.......but I can sure take my money elsewhere.

Well let's put it this way, I knew it was a horror/slasher film. I didn't expect to see a nice young couple falling in love and the credits rolling. I like slasher films. I like violent action movies. This was just wayyyy too visceral for me. Most of the time in slasher movies, it's so over the top that even though it's gory, it's not really very real, if you can understand what I'm saying. That's why it generally doesn't bother me.

I am not into gory movies.....but usually a horror film is more on the slasher type variety. I prefer ones like 1408, Rose Red, Kingdom Hospital, more of your garden variety scare, but less gore stuff. I like good plots and great writing. What lies beneith, comes to mind.

To me rape is so horrible of a crime it should upset and shock anyone. I cannot see anyone going........"Oh yeah hit that again for me!" If you do you have serious problems. I find that kind of entertainment deploreable. I feel it is way over the top to call that entertaining stuff. But as I said that is me. It is easy to take it back to the store, or just not go see a movie containing such ilk. Sometimes a movie has more than you bargained for.

Well, I knew it was a horror movie and I'm a horror movie fan. I was renting it from a Red Box, there's about 2 lines of summary. And no summary, back of DVD case or on a Red Box screen, mentions that there's a 5-7 minute rape scene that would make even a pretty desensitized person like me squeamish. Good try though

I haven't seen it, I won't because most horror films are like this one just sick or plain idiotic. This movie (the original) is why my guy will NOT watch scary movies. It messed with him and from what Ehwmatt said, I have no interest anyway. Why does anyone have to have rape in a movie anyway?

YUP. I wouldnt even watch it. I've got a teenage daughter and I knew what to expect from the reviews. I just don't get why people would find that entertaining. My daughter, who LOVES horror movies, has warned me that under no circumstances am I to watch it. She said I will absolutely hate it.

I agree -- I used to enjoy an occasional horror film, but there seriously is something wrong with the gratuitousness of these films. 5 minutes? A good filmmaker knows that the most effective sequences involving extreme violence, rape, etc. are usually implied (or at least very brief). 5 minutes isn't trying to get any point across -- it's designed to generate controversy for curiosity sales or entertain someone that would get off on it.

Zedul wrote:Isn't that what Hostel and stuff is about as well?

Same here, and I feel the exact same way (only I do have a daughter to look after). After I saw the both Hostel films, then noticed how many of these things were hitting the shelves in Blockbuster, it was enough -- I have no interest in seeing any more of them. Slasher films were always a rare guilty pleasure, but this generation of extreme torture films really does make me worry about our society if people are actually entertained by this crap. If they weren't, people would quit making them right? So it says something really dark about where our society is heading.

There seem to be no shortage of sick M'er F'ers out there, and crime is also getting ridiculous. Broad daylight break-ins, burglaries, etc. Almost every week I'm hearing someone I know got hit. My wife's best friend lives barely a mile from us and was robbed at gunpoint during a home invasion a couple of months ago. Dude held a gun to her head in front of her 6-year old son. I don't think so! It's made us more cautious than ever.

I took these pics just 3 hours ago. Check out that brass in mid-air:
