Adam Lambert on 2009 AMA Show

Postby Jana » Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:18 pm

I thought his vocals weren't great, especially the high notes, shrill in places, and -- well, interesting performance, like rubbing the guy's head in his crotch. It looked like a recycled Madonna performance.

I didn't like it at all. He is talented and should focus on that instead of going down the bondage/porn road just to be shocking.

OK - I am probably one of Adam's biggest fan's (on here) - and that sucked. Very disappointing - I hope this isn't where his career is headed, he has way too much talent to resort to that (but I'm still buying the CD).

(I thought Whitney did an admirable job on the show, and the rest of the show was surprisingly good for the most part).

WHITNEY did GREAT. and liked Janets performance too... SURPRISED by no real tribute to Michael though??? Saving that for the Grammys???

Adam might have lost his chance at Queen if he is in the running??? yes or no???

I think he was maybe trying to emulate Freddie Mercury, but he came off as too Lady Gaga-ish for me. And agreed, would be a waste of his talents if this is the route he is going?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure even Freddie never shoved his head in someone's crotch during a performance  - not sure Brian would approve of that.

I didn't watch the show and just feel I wasted 4 minutes and 15 seconds of my life that I'll never get back by watching that video. Ugh! Madonna went for shock and controversy because she's not that good of a singer. Manson, Madonna, Lady Gaga, etc....and now Lambert doing the same when he doesn't have to go that route. Shame, because he has a good voice. I want to hear good singing not watch a sideshow.....if I want a sideshow I'll go to the circus or for a "performance" like this some backroom on Sunset Strip or Bourbon Street. I want to hear singers sing well, not watch a performing monkey look foolish and there is nothing "sexy" or "tantalizing" about this routine....it's a turn off, not on.

This is garbage. I'm so friggin' sick of shows, managers, record companies, and TV networks that feed us this GARBAGE. I'm sure the little 14 year olds that voted for this guy on AI got a lot out of this performance. "Daddy, why is that guy's face in Adam's crotch?"... er, uh...
The guy can sing, so dude, just friggin' sing and leave the erotica at home.

Why does everything have to have some sort of "shock value"?

Adam should change his name to "Mandonna"

Music today blows.

Speaking of that- I listened to samples of McCartney's new live album on Itunes this weekend. Anybody that knows me knows what a huge Beatle/Paul freak I am. I was so disappointed. This live album had pitch correction (and poorly used at that) all over it. I couldn't believe it. In spots Paul sounded like a robot.
It was terrible. The guy has produced a ton of live albums, all great records. Apparently, some record company ahole talked him into this.

So apparently, every singer needs pitch correction, backup dancers, some kind of shock value, and downer videos to be taken seriously?

My wife and I were watching VH1's top 10 countdown Sunday morning. There wasn't ONE singer that didn't use pitch correction. There was ONE uplifting song, the rest was all "poor me" and just emo dreck.

Where's the freakin' guitars? Where's the talent? Every song was so down that we both wanted to slit out wrists after watching it.

Sorry, what were we talking about???
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

If a band/artist is on a major label, regardless of genre, pitch correction will be used...it's industry standard. Makes the recording go a little quicker...get it "close enough to fix" and move on...even Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston use pitch correction (also called auto-tuning) in the studio...or I should say thier mixing engineers do.

Might be the industry standard, but it blows and sounds so artificial. You can use it sparingly, and get away with it. The Paul samples I heard sounded like they were done by someone not experienced with it.

On the countdown thing, Britney Spears had it all over here voice and it was the robotic thing. Actually, not a bad song. Nice hook, etc. but the pitch correction makes it unlistenable. They either need to improve it, or stop using it.

Well, that was a disappointing performance. I liked Adam quite a lot on AI, but this was just plain bad. His voice wasn't even up to par & the whole thing looked so embarrassingly lame. Big mistake on Adam's part, I think...probably turned off a lot of the people who liked him.

I don't even like his real high thin upper register and he didn't use it sparingly in this performance, unfortunately. Unimpressive vocals b/f you even get to the actual choreography, which was lame.

I decided to watch that clip. I don't give a shit about this guy, and I don't watch A.I.

Holyfuckwasthatamistake!!

Some of you actually like this guy's singing? Sounded like a fuckin' rat caught in a trap at times. Kissing the keyboardist? Who's also a guy, I presume? It's not like A.L. needs to advertise "Hey! I'm GAY!!!"

And why is his album named after a retail music chain? LMFAO!!!

Mandonna (which is what I'm calling him from now on) has "FAIL" written all over his career. He'll be scooping for Coldstone Creamery in a few. Fo sho!

Sorry, but I've trademarked the name "Mandonna". Please pay me $6 million for it's illegal use!
Yeah, unfortunately Verslibre, we Americans eat this shit up. He'll be a superstar, just watch.

This is why we liked his singing. But his amazing performance on screen during this song is what said star. The video was taken off YouTube.

and the lead guitar that is on the audio doesnt match with what Lennon is playing live.. however the vocals seem to be

very accurate.. have you ever heard this???

this video is a bit off.. but no way is this close at 2:12... and where is Preston???

Hi Larry- I'm assuming you were watching a clip from "Let it Be"? The editing in that movie was probably the worst editing of a musical film I've ever seen. There are a lot of places that are completely out of sync and also spots where different takes of the songs were dropped into different cuts of the film. The same thing happens with George in this clip of I've Gotta Feeling (GREAT friggin' Paul vocal there man): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWxEkhE9GSg

Again on "For You Blue": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HJ2zDu_11w What John's playing on slide is nothing like what's coming out. Look at the chords George is playing in the piano solo- totally backwards.

I know that on the rooftop version of Get Back that John's solo was out of tune too. It's possible that what you heard was made up of different versions of the track.

Again, WAY terrible editing during that movie. It's no wonder Paul and Ringo don't really care to have it re-released (plus there are way bad performances in there too).
