GO DISH!!!

Im so sick and tired of companies walking on eggshells when it comes to simply wish someone MERRY CHRISTMAS, worried about offending someone.
Dish Network is one company that not only did wish/dish people a Merry Christmas, but also didnt back down to apologize later and instead released a nice statement. Good for them !

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 1, 2009 – DISH Network today issued the following statement in response to the public’s reaction over the company’s use of the words “Merry Christmas” in a TV commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAGVbRNSMAA), DISH Network has received an outpouring of both support and displeasure from people across the country over the use of the phrase “Merry Christmas” in a holiday greeting to our customers. "DISH Network acknowledges and respects the diversity of faith in our country, but at the same time recognizes the overwhelming majority that celebrate Christmas. We cannot imagine that Americans of all faiths would not want to embrace the spirit of the holiday and join us in wishing Christian Americans a very Merry Christmas.”

Political correctness is killing this country, seriously...

In our effort to eradicate discrimination and embrace diversity, we have given words more power than ever.

I'd be willing to guess most Spanish are Christians and wouldn't likely fight the label.

Thats not the point,,, I bet you no jews or muslims or hindus would get mad at Merry Christmas messages.... Christmas is more than just a religous celeberation. Its been a TRADITION in this country for ages. Those who take offense to it, should know there are many different option for them to leave this country and enjoy a christmas-free December somewhere far far away from this country :)

So then who exactly are these sue happy individuals? Would you suggest they are Christians? I think not. I'm not saying other religions would be offended by it, but SOMEONE has fought it enough for it to come to this, and it wasnt' the Christians. Christmas is a Christian holiday. Anyone can celebrate it and call it what they want, but that's what it is. I can celebrate Kawanza and Hanukka all I want and have a great time, but they are still African/religious and Jewish celebrations. My kids are in public school and they HAVE to celebrate holidays in our county here. They don't call it a christmas party, it's a holiday party. And they have to learn about kawanza and hanukka. To make sure they are including other religious beliefs too. Do you think it's the Christians pushing that? Christmas has "CHRIST" in it and that IS the point.

no I think its MORONS pushing that, regardless of their religion... most probably dont even practice a religion,,, and youd be surprised that there are actually christians that would think its inappropriate to say merry christmas cause they dont want others to feel left out and mainly cause they have no balls :)

Agreed.

I'm just SO tired of everyone having to worry about everything they say every minute of the day. You know what, if you don't celebrate Christmas, then just tune out the Merry Christmas messages. You know what? I'm not jewish. I don't flip out if a particular company or store or business chooses to post a Happy Hanukkah message. I just ignore it because it does not apply to me! It's NOT a difficult thing to do!

How about this... are we going to one day be disallowed from expressing "happy 4th of july" because of the huge number of immigrants hanging around here and the fact that they might be offended? Same principle! No, they have their Cinco de Mayos and Pulaski days and whatever that Puerto Rican holiday is in June... and we leave them alone about it, and they leave us alone about the 4th of july, so how is this any different? It's not. Let the rest of us smack "merry christmas" across everything and we'll let you alone with your hanukkahs and kwanzas and Atheismas (that's in August) and everything else.

i mean JESUS CHRIST(MAS)! Un-fk'n-clench, people. Nobody seems to give a shit about the holiday expressions that offend ME, so guess what, I'mma paint "Merry Christmas" in red and green across my taters and go jog around Temple Beth Shalom. Ask me if I care who is offended.

I would guess it's mostly people without religion too. Although it depends on where you live too. In New York and New Jersey there are a lot of Jewish people. So a lot of the schools there recognize Jewish holidays as "days off" during the school year. Here, that does not happen. So the Jewish teachers fought and fought and now the kids in our public schools can not have off Easter week as their spring break anymore. And honestly, I don't think the Jewish teachers cared, but they wanted THEIR holidays to be calendar days off for school too. They didn't want to have to use vacation days for theirs. So then you get the slippery slope of who gets to have off for what, and if we do it for the Jewish teacher, then what about the Muslim teacher and so on..... So it became easier to just let NO ONE have anything I guess!

I'm all for Merry Christmas on everything. Not merry xmas or happy holidays. I have never said that in my life. But OBVIOUSLY some very influential people in this country with money have fought hard to scare these companies into thinking they can't do it.

I agree 100% but I think the main difference between Independence Day and Christmas s that Christmas is a religious holiday and religion is ALWAYS a hot topic-everyone has very strong feelings about religion in one way or another and everyone feels that their thoughts on religion are right. That's what creates so much controversy with Christmas.

It doesnt matter! If I would move to Israel, I wouldnt expect them to stop saying Shalom & Happy Hannuka to eachother just cause Im not a Jew.
People, regardless of their background, culture and religion need to realize that Christmas is more than just a religious celebration in this country. 8)
wishing someone a Merry Christmas is not FORCING them to become a Christian!!! Funny how people allow mormons and JW's come to their door and preach their stuff, but God forbid if someone wishes them a MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

I think the people that are "against" Christmas are against it because the US isn't supposed to have an official religion but you wouldn't know it the way Christmas (and other Christian holidays) are handled. No other religious celebration in the US is a federal holiday.

I love Christmas, not so much the religious part, but the season of lights and trees and gifts. I definitely don't have a problem with people saying or celebrating Christmas, but I do see where the resentment comes from.
