Top 25 Tours Of 2009

Journey, Def Leppard, Foreigner, etc. didn't make the cut even though they performed more shows then a lot of the acts listed below. Journey's previous two tours had both been in the top 20 despite having different singers over that period of time. Teaming up with Def Leppard and Heart didn't hurt them, that's for sure. All the reason for Azoff to pair them up with a great co-headliner their next tour.

I agree, if you're going to play basically the same show over and over you have got
to mix it up some how some way!!!

The only reason Journey and Def Leppard didn't make the cut is because they didn't charge a second mortgage for tickets like most of the artists on this list.

Plus, they didn't play major markets this time.

Horseshit. Journey charged as much if not more than Springsteen did. Tickets for Bruce ran 65 and 95. Wasn't Journey the same? if not more? They played decent sized places, even in secondary markets.

I was thinking top 10 when Neal was talking about how they were doing much better than their contemporaries after one of the New York Shows. Now I see he must have been talking about other melodic rock acts because AC-DC and Metallica both drew huge.

Journey could totally shake it up on their next tour and have Mastodon or Lamb Of God open for them. Oh, and also drop Open Arms from the setlist.

Funny. I wouldn't pay $5 to see any act on that list.

Perhaps Fleetwood in the 70s, as well as Joel and McCartney in the 70s....but as it stands....that list is just plain horrendous.

Most people wouldn't pay $5 dollars to see 90% of the bands StoM posts about, so it's not nutty at all. To each his own.

There are 6 all time great bands on this list. Yet you wouldn't fork out 5 bucks to see greatness? Neverfuckingmind.

That's because 90% of the music listening folk at MR are so set in their ways(listening to only mainstream, POPULAR stuff), i.e. stuff that the music industry crams down your collective throats - you wouldn't know good music if it were giving you head.....

But how in the hell does Madonna (read OLDonna) pull ahead of the other acts? Especially Mcartney, a real legend in rock. She hasn't been relevant in 15 years aside from going on TV to lezkiss young chicks.

I would like to see the number of shows played per artist. I am willing to bet McCartney didn't play half as many shows as Madonna, who did a huge world tour, not just a States or European tour. I would like to see people played per sitting. That would tell the whole story. U2 is number one based on stadium gigs.

She has always had huge tours, sellouts, so I guess she is relevant.

Well there you go.

Bruce is about where he should be considering the number of shows played. U2 played stadiums so that makes sense. McCartney only played ten gigs and made the list? Wow, impressive. Madonna charged more per gig than any artist on here save for John and Joel. She averaged what, $200 per gig?

Depeche Mode would have ranked higher. They had to cancel quite a few concerts b/c of David Gahan's illness and resulting surgery. I don't know how many they made up.
