I don't think any musician should retire until they want to. If that's what they love doing, then I say let them. If I don't care for what they're putting out, this time, I'll pass on it, but they may put out a juggernaut of a record the next time. And if they had retired, then they wouldn't have.

The argument that people are still flocking to these bands is a flawed one and clearly presented by people who have zero knowledge or understanding of the power these bands represented in the 80s.

What they look like and represent now, is a vacuous shadow of what it was like back then. It's an empty carcature.

All things being equal, DSB will ALWAYS be the one thing this band is known for. If Arnel becomes bigger than DSB, then this band is going to be selling out football stadiums. I don't see that happening.

My thoughts exactly. Sure, the time may well have passed for any of the bands being musically relevant, but ANY band that is pulling in millions of dollars touring is not going to give it up. It becomes a pure business--and a very lucrative one. The public votes with their ticket, and as long as you are selling out arenas, who in their right mind would give it up?

Now, for sure, there are probably bands out there that are doing it solely for the music, hate each other, have zero chemistry on stage, and aren't playing all that well that probably should quit. There are also bands out there that at some point, you aren't seeing the actual band anymore--just a group touring under the original name. The Temptations and Four Tops are getting pretty close to this stage at the moment--both are down to one original member, neither of whom were any of the big names.

That being said, being a musician is all these people know, and if they are still having fun, and getting paid for it, who's to argue?
