Must say I agree with at least a couple of them (but not all  )

For those who don't want to click;

Journey
Power ballads should have been retired decades ago, so the time for one of their key creators to hang it up is long overdue. Things looked promising when Journey went on hiatus in 1987, but it reformed in 1995 and has been living on past glories ever since -- even though Steve Perry, who sang all the biggest hits, has been absent since 1998. Things have got so bad that Filipino Arnel Pineda was recruited to become the frontman in 2007 after YouTube clips of him singing Survivor and Air Supply songs impressed guitarist Neil Schon, the only Journey member to play on all of the band's albums.

BB King is an example that musicians can play well into their senior years. To me as long as people want to go see them they should keep playing. :D

Wrong. As long as people flock to see these types of bands, who is this guy to say any of them should hang it up if they still put on a great show? Superb musicians on stage. Plus, you know me, I love a great power ballad like Faithfully.

blah, blah, blah ... Tommy Shaw had a great answer for this at a meet and greet I attended a while back. Something along the lines of, "Singer and songwriter; it's what I do. You don't ask your plumber why he is still fixing pipes, do you?"

I don't think any musician should retire until they want to. If that's what they love doing, then I say let them. If I don't care for what they're putting out, this time, I'll pass on it, but they may put out a juggernaut of a record the next time. And if they had retired, then they wouldn't have.

Air Supply and Journey in the same paragraph. If that doesn't give Neal incentive to rock harder on the next album, nothing will.

I'll leave rod burning to the professionals.

I was really poking fun at Jana's Statement about loving the Power Ballad Faithfully. When a guy says something like that, the first thing you'll here is the dude must be gay.
My humor is as bad as Steveo777's.

I enjoy the music of Adam and The Ants, the same way 78 sports a Sammy AV because he likes Hagar.

Journey doesnt need to retire-they need to regroup. If Steve Perry was still in the band and they were playing major arenas like Bon Jovi and Springsteen no way the Journey name makes that list.
Everytime you hear about Journey and arnie that damn youtube story comes up...again and again..thats all they will ever be known for now. Not Open Arms, DSB, WITS, but the damn youtube singer!!

I agree with every band mentioned on that list.

The argument that people are still flocking to these bands is a flawed one and clearly presented by people who have zero knowledge or understanding of the power these bands represented in the 80s.

What they look like and represent now, is a vacuous shadow of what it was like back then. It's an empty carcature.

Fucking stick a fork in it.

When 1/2, 3/4, 3/5, 4/5 of your original band isn't fucking there, you aren't the original band anymore....fucking retire and show some fucking respect. This goes to Nick Schlong, Mick Jones, Tommy Shaw, Roger Daltry, etc, etc, etc

what do you expect? It's the first hard rock band to go international. The results may not be to your liking, but it's a pretty big deal in the world of music. It's the first time it ever happened. In one move, Journey transformed themselves to a global band--and I can guarantee you that Arnel is bringing more $$$ to Journey than ANYONE not named Steve Perry could.

All things being equal, DSB will ALWAYS be the one thing this band is known for. If Arnel becomes bigger than DSB, then this band is going to be selling out football stadiums. I don't see that happening.

Jana wrote:Wrong. As long as people flock to see these types of bands, who is this guy to say any of them should hang it up if they still put on a great show?

My thoughts exactly. Sure, the time may well have passed for any of the bands being musically relevant, but ANY band that is pulling in millions of dollars touring is not going to give it up. It becomes a pure business--and a very lucrative one. The public votes with their ticket, and as long as you are selling out arenas, who in their right mind would give it up?

Now, for sure, there are probably bands out there that are doing it solely for the music, hate each other, have zero chemistry on stage, and aren't playing all that well that probably should quit. There are also bands out there that at some point, you aren't seeing the actual band anymore--just a group touring under the original name. The Temptations and Four Tops are getting pretty close to this stage at the moment--both are down to one original member, neither of whom were any of the big names.

That being said, being a musician is all these people know, and if they are still having fun, and getting paid for it, who's to argue?

Then you have absolutely no remote 0% chance of the youtube story being what Journey is known for happening.
