Approx. 2 weeks ago, CT had a freak WARM spell.....65 DEGREES IN DECEMBER!
I was driving around on my lunch hour, listening to George Michael's "Last Christmas" with MY SUN-ROOF OPEN AND NO JACKET.

Gotta say.....it was weird.....

When I hear Sleigh-Bells in a Song, I expect to see Snow.....not T-Shirts! LOL

well, Raleigh shut down about 3 years ago over ONE INCH of show! I'd love to get a big snow down here, but it seems we're on the wrong end of the rain/snow line--as usual. Of course, nobody down here can drive in the snow when it arrives, even though about 60% of the population are from up north. They move south and all of a sudden lose all ability to drive in snow?!?!? Go figure...

At least you guys up there are close enough to get to a ski resort without a major issue when the weather's right--it's 4hrs to the nearest, and 6hrs to the closest decent one (which is nothing compared the ones up north/west). Not fun.

I'd love to get a big snow down here, but it seems we're on the wrong end of the rain/snow line--as usual. Well, I guess the SnowBirds, as we call them, thought that the South HAD no snow....I apologize for all of them.

At least you guys up there are close enough to get to a ski resort without a major issue when the weather's right--it's 4hrs to the nearest, and 6hrs to the closest decent one (which is nothing compared the ones up north/west). Not fun.

Well, that all depends on whether or not people like to ski.....I learned about 20 years ago; haven't been since....my Husband HATES to Ski....so I gotta find a Ski-Club....or something.

I've lived in the greater Boston area for 38 of my 39 years. I've never owned snow tires and wouldn't even know where to purchase chains for my tires. I personally think snow sucks ass, but I've accepted it as my cross to bear as someone who loves living in my favorite part of the country. I'll never quite comprehend why snow around here is a news story in December. If we were getting two feet of snow in July, I could certainly get into it as a news story. In the meantime, it's New England...it's December...it's fucking cold...and it snows!

Yes it is a cold as hell here right now but that is Maine in the winter......and well I love it here

very sad, isn't it? Long story short is the greater Raleigh area decided to close schools at 12PM with no warning, and no bus service, so you have everyone in the area running around back and forth trying to get to the kids, and get home. Not to mention the fact that people here can't drive in the snow anyway. We didn't get caught in it, but a friend of someone I know took 8hrs for them to get home (which should have been a 20-25 minute drive).

It shouldn't have been a big deal, but people here freak out whenever snow is forecast, and running around at 70mph in street tires with icy/snowy roads is a recipe for disaster.

You should--the northeast has a couple of great places, and they vary from beginner to moderate to expert. Great trails, great scenery, very peaceful, and--unlike the south--no lift lines (in most places!). Pick the right day, pick the right mountain for your skill level, and dress appropriately--in this day and age, if you are cold skiing, you didn't dress right. Pick a challenging, but not TOO challenging trail as you do NOT want to get in over your head out there, get a little speed, feel the wind at your back, and an open slope in front of you, and, within limits and safety, let it go--it doesn't get any better that that.

Good thing is that skiing is like riding a bike. You might get rusty, but you don't forget.

I think the story is Virginia and Washington, DC getting slammed....not the northeast. That far north in Boston, you guys should be used to it, and it's not supposed to be that bad anyway. DC residents tend to be far enough south for the "wow, it's snow" effect, and doing the typical southern freak-out thing--ie crashing into everything that moves or doesn't. Also, Virginia doesn't have the budget for snow removal like the northeast does--so things get treacherous much faster (as I'm sure you found out).

We don't suck at all. We're simply too fucking aggressive and crazy for you super slow, Maine-iacs to deal with. This is civilization down here. You guys are used to navigating around Moose and Elk and not paved roads

Not true as I am in Portland....and we have plenty of civilization....and I love Boston!!! I am there at least once every month~~~ Now be nice!!!!

Well, that's civilization by Maine standards, but as soon as you leave the city limits, back on Gilligan's Island you go. Hell, the world ends once you pass Augusta.
