Favorite Christmas Movies

It's kind of a tradition to watch the same movies every year around Christmastime.

I love It's a Wonderful Life. My all-time favorite Christmas movie and watch it every year. Miracle on 34th Street - great black-and-white family movie.

The Family Man - Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni

Love, Actually is a sweet movie

Bad Santa - Billy Bob Thornton :lol:

It's a Wonderful Life is great too. I only saw the ENTIRE movie THIS year.
I almost always have come in at the same place, where he's on the bridge and saves Clarence.
I'd never seen the rest till this year. Dang.

You know, I think alot more people than you'd think have actually not seen that movie all the way through.

About 10 years ago, I decided to watch the whole thing - had only ever seen the end (over and over - that always seemed to be where I came in)... and my LORD that movie bored me!

Top 3 that I watch EVERY year without fail...

I LOVE the TBS "24 hours of A Christmas Story" - every minute that I am at home during those 24 hours, TBS is on, and I don't care who around me doesn't like it.

Funny/Silly: Home Alone or A Christmas Story

Inspirational/Heartwarming: It's A Wonderful Life or The Family Man

Spiritual: Jesus Of Nazareth. The one starring Robert Powell. It's 6-1/2 hours long, btw. Great movie but I gotta be in the mood for it. Fun Fact: Robert Powell does not blink his eyes -- EVER -- throughout this entire movie. Director Franco Zeffirelli wanted a Jesus that doesn't blink b/c he felt it made the character's presence more piercing, holy & believable. Good call, but can you imagine how many retakes they had to do?!?

I've actually seen that movie a number of times. But "It's a Wonderful Life" - only seent hat once. That's what happens when you grow up catholic. :lol:

It used to be on TV every year at Easter time (do they still do that?) and of course, going to catholic school, they made us watch it.

Doesn't blink? I never noticed that. :shock:

but I don't have eleventy hundred hours available to sit through it, so maybe not. :lol:

I thought I was the only one logged on right now & I was just getting ready to log off but you caught me. Yes---he does not blink at all. There is a scene (I believe it's where Judas betrays him) that his eyes fill with tears & he looks down briefly & looks upward .... that is the closest he comes to blinking. I watched a documentary on the making of that movie & that's where I learned the blinking thing & so naturally I had to put it to the test next time I watched it. Not one blink.

Lots of classics, including some named here - I have great memories of watching Miracle on 34th with my family as a kid. My dad loved/loves that shit.

I will go on record as saying I'd rather eat a bullet than ever watch a Christmas Story again. HORRIBLE movie and I just don't get the appeal. That kid is about as cute as placenta diarrhea

a christmas story... the ending is classic... love the marathon on TBS every year!! you will shoot your eye out!!

Home Alone has grown on me in recent years too. The wet bandits!!
Home Alone 2 actually is a GREAT SEQUAL.

RUDOLPH is the best xmas special animated.

It's not strictly a Christmas movie but one we used to watch every Christmas morning for years... The Quiet Man, with John Wayne. Made on location in a tiny Irish village called Cong, in about 1952-53. I've been to that village recently, and they still have landmarks, tours and monuments dedicated to that movie more than 50 years later. Great movie.

"It's A Wonderful Life" is not only the best Christmas movie ever, it's one of the best films ever made PERIOD. If you don't love that film you have no soul.

I'm also right with you on "Family Man" (very sweet, modern update of the WONDERFUL LIFE idea) and "Love Actually" is brilliant. LOVE that Director's new film too (PIRATE RADIO- great, underrated film)
