NYE Resolutions

I haven't made a New Year's Resolution in an age or two, largely because I rarely bothered with the resolution past one week. However, so much needs to be "control, alt, delete" for me this next decade, I thought I'd actually have a few.

1) Finances back on track -- being out of work for too long really screwed me up -- the $$ is better, but I need to keep a tighter rein on the spending.

2) Branch out -- all my eggs had been in one or two baskets max over the last few years, and made for quite a few disappointments. This coming decade will have the friends pulling from a variety of sources.

How about you... what's yours?

I did too. Kinda goes with the whole "I'm Broke, damnit" scenario. 2010 will be much much much better.

I picked "Lose Some Weight" b/c I would like to lose 10 to 12 lbs & there was really nothing else on the list that applies to me. Don't need to find a significant other.... not dumping the one I got .... already have enough hi-def stuff .... travel ain't gonna happen .... concerts aren't anything I have to "work" for..... write a book? Really? Me? It would wind up in the bargain bin right next to the pre-Steve Journey CD.

OT: Speaking of writing books, if anyone is interested..... there's a little known talent right here on Melodicrock. His name is ProgRocker53. I don't guess he would mind me saying this about him b/c he blogs this stuff himself. If you click on the links in his signature line it will take you to some of his writings. When I read the piece he wrote about what happened to him last summer I was astounded! Even beyond the subject of his blog, I was astounded b/c I couldn't believe that the story itself was written by a 21 year old. It reads like it was written by a seasoned author. It's written very well.

Just when I needed a bit of a lift today I see this. Thank you so very much, my man. Glad to see that people bother reading my stuff, I try to put effort and time into it and I like hearing feedback, and if I help others somehow, that's all the better.

In some ways I am a seasoned author, I write all the time but never finish anything... been writing somewhat consistently since the age of 6 and was en route to a career in journalism before my life was derailed.

(I voted for "write a book," by the way. And I LOVE pre-Steve Journey CDs. ;) )

I picked the last option - don't bother with them.

I posted this on my friend's blog the other day because the topic happened to be resolutions, and I don't feel like typing it again so I'm pasting:

"My resolution is the same each year - I resolve not to make a stupid resolution. January 1 is not proper motivation. If a person has to use January 1 as a reason to do something (or stop doing something) then they aren't truly ready to do it and are setting themself up for failure.

If I'm going to stop eating junk or read more books or write the great american novel, I'm going to do it in my timeframe and when *I* become ready. If I force myself to do it at a time that I am not yet ready just to say "My New Years' resolution is..." then I'm just shooting myself right in the foot.

This is the same principle as giving things up for lent. Why? Why bother? You're going to start it back up in 4 weeks anyway (IF you make it that long). Do it because it's what is right for you at a time that's right for you, not because some tradition says you should.

A little more thinking for ourselves, here, people. Just a little more. :-D Peace out."

I just wish for 2010 to be better all the way around than 2009. Not just for me, either.
I know many people who could use a better year than '09 was.

Must have been your Springfield induced puddle affecting the dewpoint. Mystery solved. Carry on.

Yep, love seeing concerts. Making up for lost time, lol.

Resolutions aren't something I usually make at New Year's either, but this time I am resolving to stick with just a couple I already started a little bit ago. The biggest, letting go of the emotional trauma and stranglehold an incredible loss almost 4 years ago has had on me. To stop letting myself be the doormat I've been since then from being that broken down, and forgiving those in my heart who have done so, and knowing and forgiving my own mistakes along that way as well, realizing, like a friend recently told me, "no snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible". Just getting stronger, Oh and stronger physically as well, stepping up my time with my "trainer" (husband, LOL), since it's already made a difference, instead of the boring workouts I've been doing, and getting back into running with him.

You go, Mel. The doormat part reminded me of a favorite quote from Rebecca West, a 19th century Englishwoman, "“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is; I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat."

As for me ... the extra weight is pretty much gone, book #6 is in the works, travel schedule is always a whirlwind ...

so ... carpe diem x365!

:D
