I still lurk most of the time. My free time is pretty limited nowadays and I’ve never been one for the one-line replies just to keep a thread rolling on aimlessly. When I post I try to make it constructive (it doesn’t always work, but I try) which means I spend some time thinking about it and composing it before letting my fingers loose on the keyboard. That takes time – for me at least – as my brain doesn’t think that quickly and being a man I’m not good at multi-tasking
However, I check in here almost every day. Probably 90% of the threads don’t interest me so I skip them, but I do follow some threads and interject when I feel I can add something. I enjoy some of the banter, and there are many cool and intelligent people here, but often the one line responses (usually quoting lots of the preceding posts) tend to go on and on and on… and on, and it gets boring after a while.
I agree with some earlier comments that this place is nowhere near as intimidating as it was, but for neutrals and newbies there is still a lot of abuse and pointless arguments to deter them from getting involved. I’m not suggesting that everybody suddenly starts being nicey nicey, as that would detract from the character of this board and I for one enjoy some of the confrontation, but we should recognise that many people are more sensitive/less confident on forums and need to be encouraged when they post instead of being shot down straight away.
