Killer Journey Tribute band!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Jan 05, 2010 1:44 pm

Just stumbled on these guys and thought you might REALLY like them! I've seen 1 clip from them a while back, but I found several different clips just now and HAD to share them! The singer bounces from being outstanding to sometimes a little off on his timing. Overall... I think if you compare Odyssey Roads Tribute to the others out there, these guys are at the top of the stack!

The singer doesn't sound all that much like Perry, but he has a great voice. The guitarists doesn't copy Neal note for note, but he still sounds great. The keys sound great in some songs, and mediocre in others. I'm looking strictly at the overall sound of these live recordings, not the individual performances. I think my BIGGEST thing I'm liking here are the amazing backing vocals. I'm a sucker for awesome live vocals! :D

Jeremey... I'm not taking a stab at you, but I'm talking about the entire package here. They have great musicians with AWESOME live backing vocals. There's a lot to like here, and I'd LOVE to hear them. I'm also a fan of Frontiers and WAS a fan of Hugo's band until that whole scenario blew up.

Anyways, here they are...

Girl Can't Help It (keyboards sound a little wonky in this version, but focus on the backing vocals!!!):

Here's Light's and Stay Awhile (again, check out the backing vocals!):

They are very polished as you said. I'm not sure if the singer is close enough to Perry to really put them up there in my book, but I'd definitely see them and have a great time. Thanks for sharing.

Keyboard player needs some work on his patches like you said.

I'll have to say IBAWY is my least favorite. The guitar player really mangles that solo at the end. You have to give the soulful feel of that solo a little more respect even if you don't cop it note for note. Bringing out a Strat or at least rolling back the drive woulda helped.

EDIT: This guy does a killer job on WCTNGF besides a few too-quick phrases  Way better than Arnel.

My thoughts exactly. I like this fat fucks' upper end of his voice. Effortless and no nasally sound....however, his too high of pitch regular vox are a turn off. I see a Christopher Cross up there when I see this guy, but like I said, his upper end on WCTNGOF is phenomenal.

Well HEY stranger! Did you get my text the other day? :D I agree on HIS vocals. The backing vocals on this band I think are what really blow me away! They're awesome.

I guess that's what it is. I didn't know the term, so I was going to say the tone of his voice. On WCTNGOF just not feeling it. Fantastic range, but like you said, the timbre of his voice doesn't lend itself to the soulfulness of the song.

Not so sure about Jeremey blowing him away. Jeremey is good, but doesn't sound as good high as this fat fucker does.

I knew what you meant  I listened now to all of the songs and beyond a great range and he is effortless for sure, I'm just not feeling his voice for the reason you stated, but still good vocals.

Agree, love the upper end on WCTNGOF but his regular/normal vocals are too high for me too. I like a little more texture to my vocals, clear high vocals are great for certain parts of songs, but not for continuous listening.
