Not surprisingly,
Don't Stop Believing (someone had to be the first

) always puts a smile on my face, especially when I hear it out of the blue on the radio. I like to listen to early to mid-80s Top Ten stuff from my youth when I want to just forget whatever I'm dealing with and remember being 12 or 13 with my whole life ahead of me, but I'll put on a CD and listen to the whole album like I did back then.
Reckless is one of my favourites, but whatever I'm dealing with will impact what I want to listen to. Soundtracks from movies that came out during my teenage years or movies depicting those times are rather comforting too and sometimes I'll just play the movie in the background:
Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, The Wedding Singer, etc.
Another Journey song in particular helps me put things in perspective, but less because of the song and more because of the story behind it:
Only the Young. It reminds me that things will get better and perhaps not everything is so bad after all.
I just looked at my avatar and remembered Shania's song
Up! - that's a good one too. It reminds me of her story and the loss of both of her parents at age 21 and the knowledge that for everything she has in the world, I wouldn't trade places with her - then I feel pretty blessed.
