Since I'm a big fan of the entertaining talent competition, I wanted to be the first to start the thread for the 2010 season premiering this Tuesday, so fellow fans here can post about all things American Idol. Hell, I actually got cable turned on last week just so I could get Fox  Here's to an exciting season!! 8)

I generally skip the auditions portion of the show and don't tune in until the actual competition begins.

Why doesnt Steve Perry ever co-host a Journey night? Since so many TV shows are doing the tunes these days and of course the Randy Jackson connection it seems like it would be a natural.

I can't wait for the new season. And if this is Simon's last season, like it has been rumored, then it will probably be the last season for me as well.

I am surprised that he hasnt been a mentor yet with the top 8 Like some of the other stars have done.

I think Idol should go out with a BANG with Simon this year and go out on top... instead of fluttering around with one original judge left.

They said he was making 50 million a year off the show total this coming year, but felt he had no creative control and Simon Fuller ran the show, and wanted to move on and bring the X Factor over. Even though he's beyond wealthy, you have to admire him walking away from fantastic money and not caring just to do what he wanted to do.

...because Perry has spent the better part of his waking hours since the "divorce" in 1998 telling anyone who will listen that he no longer has anything to do with Journey. "They're doing their thing, and I'm doing my thing"... blah, blah, blah, or something to that effect. He can't very well go back on that, can he...or can he??? :?

Interesting point. I'm sure he's been asked many times and, for whatever reason, doesn't want to do it. But ................ if he TRULY is putting out a solo album THIS year, I could see him doing the mentoring thing for easy, free publicity.

His brother was terminally ill during the show, and they showed him a couple of times. It was very sad. I can't remember b/c I only sporadically watched the show, but I think he was too ill to be at the finale.

Don't lie to me, you know you watch it.

In an alternate universe that appreciated true music, a show with a concept like AI would be a hell of a great show. Too bad all the culture fakes and bullshit horrendous backing tracks have to ruin the show.

They should have The Nuge come on there and be the mentor... can you imagine Wango Tango Ted dealing with those fruity fruitcakes that come on that show? It'd be great.

A Journey-themed night would be fitting, I wouldn't be surprised if that does happen this season. Not surprising, my dream theme shows would be Meat Loaf night and Bruce Springsteen night...sure neither will happen though.

Not very happy this will be Simon's last season :(

Idol is and always has been a psychological experiment. The show hooks people(mostly young impressionable girls) on LOOKS, and the current flavor of disposable music and rapes that shit over and over for(now, because they've added AT LEAST 8 weeks since the beginning) 16 weeks.

The auditions can be funny, and are a train wreck you just can't turn away from....

None of the winners, or runner-ups for that matter, will be remembered for any salient contribution to music.....

Idol is a money-making machine for Simon Fuller, plain and simple. The show is an advertising goldmine.

And I'm sorry, any person over the age of 20 who finds this show appealing and 'cant miss it', is a wackadoo.

I believe the show is fixed, and a couple of levels, and I don't believe the public really has control of the voting process...

Melinda Doolittle had the best voice, and the most singing talent of ANY idol contestant up til now....and that she didn't win bothered me.

I admittedly watched the first season, and have picked and poked at it since then.....after hearing Melinda sing...chose to finish that season....

The judges are a joke....they are stereotypical characitures. Simon is the bad cop. Randy is the cluless ex-musician(barely), and Paula, who seems only to care about a contestant's fashion, and about people 'making the song their own.' The woman has 3 mins to form an opinion and she fumbles over the critique like it was a surprise.? Her pseudo-flirtation with Simon is scripted, and her alcoholic/drug inspired weirdness is deplorable....

Well not everyone actually watches the show. But I do like to give the finalists/winners a chance to see if anything sparks with me. David Cook is one who does.
