Jim Peterik's World Stage

Last night was Jim Peterik's World Stage show. This year's bill was a little light, with the only real newcomer being Mike Reno from Loverboy. Missing from last year's show were David Pack and Rik Emmett. As always, the show was worth the $50, but having been spoiled in the past I guess there was a tiny sense of a let down.

Locals Lisa McClowry, Nick Collionne, Colin Peterik, Anthony Gomes and Marzette Griffith were all great and there musical diversity ranged from Blues to Jazz to Rock to Country. Mike Reno came out and did Working For The Weekend, Almost Paradise (with Lisa McClowry instead of Ann Wilson), and Turn Me Loose. He was a little short of breath at times, but Mike did a pretty nice job.

The Ides Of March came out and did a new song off their new album ... their first since 1973. It was actually really good. Then they did LA Goodbye and Vehicle. Both were solid as usual and, like always, Vehicle brought the house down.

Jimi Jamison came out and did Crossroads Moment off of the album titled the same. It was a pretty good song and (I think)the first time he's ever performed it live. He then went on to sing High On You, I Can't Hold Back, The Search Is Over and Burning Heart. Jimi either had an off night or has lost a lot since last year's show. He actually had to go up to Toby Hitchcock during Burning Heart and ask for help. I don't if any of you have ever seen/heard Toby Hitchcock, but this kid can sing with anyone! He really belted the rest of the song out of the park. Speaking of Hitchcock, he sang Unbreakable, a Pride Of Lions song, and floored the place with Steve Perry-like power and range. He's got a five octave voice and is truly a vocal powerhouse.

Up last was Kelly Keagy of Night Ranger. He started with I'm Alive, a great solo song that was slated for Rocky IV, but wasn't included at the last minute. He also performed Sister Christian and Don't Tell Me You Love Me.

Lastly, everyone came out and, like every year, performed The Eye Of The Tiger, with Jamison and Peterik sharing lead vocals, and Toby Hitchcock blowing the place up with his backgroundd vocals. All in all, another great year of music at an unbeatable price and The College Of Dupage offers a 600 seat intimate venue that is both acoustically sound and extremely comfortable in every way. Thank you, Jim Peterik!

PS Concert calls went out to Ehwmatt, Red13JoePa and Lights1961 ... who hung up during Turn Me Loose ... fucker. (I have a feeling he didn't who it was and/or what the hell was going on! )

Sorry to hear about the shape of his voice, but at that age, any given night could be an off night. Hopefully an isolated incident. He sounds a bit rough in the above clip too, but that's kinda bad quality. Fucker still smokes, he should cut that shit out.

I was hoping Rik Emmett was on the bill, I would've went. I wanted to see Mike Reno! World Stage in Milwaukee last year was amazing, one of the best shows that I've seen!!

Yes thanks Don, and I'm still kicking myself for missing his show when he was here last year. I've seen him in Triumph a few times, but never solo........I'll definitely catch his show the next time he comes to town.

Wow john.....pretty scalding review of the show as we were at the same place yet weren't watching the same show. As a World stage vet,as i believe you are also,I think you were a little confused, it was Mike Reno who's voice was more than a little raw. As for Jimi, yes his voice isn't what it used to be as the same can be said of Reno, but that's simply a product of getting older. World Stage is a very tightly scripted event and I can tell you without a doubt that the whole Jimi/Toby thing on Burning Heart was NOT spontanious, but yet a carefully planned duet that was worked out during rehersals at Jim's house on friday night.
As for the show itself....someone said they felt it was a little light and i would agree, it didn't seem to pack the punch that it has in some years, but in Jim's defense..he was trying to create an anniversary type show by replicating the first show with many of the same performers. thus also why this show preserved on video and audio.
Hopefully World Stage 2011 will get back to the rocking show that it has been in past years with little interludes of the Jazz direction instead of it being the focus as has been the last couple of years. Either way a great evening and I'll be there next year again.

I think you were a little confused, it was Mike Reno who's voice was more than a little raw.

Nope ... he was short of breath a few times just like I said. If you're referring to him coughing during one of the songs then I can kind of see your point. But it didn't affect the song.

As for Jimi, yes his voice isn't what it used to be as the same can be said of Reno, but that's simply a product of getting older.

Very well could be, but he was twice as powerful/good last year. He nailed everything last year and was able to "let it go." I didn't hear that once this year. He kept it pretty simple. Still a good performance on some pretty demanding songs.

I did not know that was you!! well damn... all I heard was it sounded like someone missed dialed from a bar! HAHA. I heard no music seemed like someone hit the wrong phone number!!!! Couldnt hear a thing. so I hung up after a few minutes...
