Anybody else going to be watching the Grammies on Sunday? Would love to see Kings of Leon get it for Use Somebody, but I'm sure it will go to Beyonce for Single Lady. Glad to see they are performing too....hope it's my sig song or Notion. Great CD! :)

Micheal Jackson getting special award too that his kids are excepting? :o

Yup! Got my 3D glasses from Target for the MJ thing. LOL!! Other than that I won't know who any of the singers are.
I'm such an old ass. "Who's that? And they're famous...why?"

From the Grammy website...
Previously announced performers include Beyoncé; the Black Eyed Peas; Bon Jovi; the Dave Matthews Band; Green Day; Lady Antebellum; Lady Gaga; Maxwell; Pink; Taylor Swift; the Zac Brown Band; Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood, and Usher in a special 3-D GRAMMY tribute to Michael Jackson; and Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli in a special fund-raising segment for Haitian relief.

Jeff Beck, Drake, Eminem, Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, and T-Pain among latest performers added

Hmm. Not a bad list, with some exceptions.
Gaga, Pink and Celine will be excellent opportunities for bathroom breaks and beverage refills.

The "This Is It" dancers are scheduled to perform during the MJ tribute & so for that reason alone I know I'll watch, but I'll be multitasking as well b/c I have a short attention span. When that part comes on the show, then I'll give it my full attention. I love Lady Gaga & Beyonce's "Single Ladies" & so I'm pulling for both of them to win. I heard Eminem is supposed to perform. I'm not too crazy about that guy but I do wanna see if he's learned a little tolerance & humility while in rehab ala Elton, but I doubt it.

That song SUCKS. The singer sounds like a duck choking on a goose ,,,they play it nonstop in all stations and I'm sick of it. Sorry deb but your great taste of music is going south since u been hanging out with Saint Radio Dan a lot. ;)

I like to describe the Kings Of Leon singer as sounding like a 'dying squirrel,' but 'duck choking on goose works too.'

Seriously...the guy is AWFUL. Worse than Jack White, even. How do people like this? (and I'm 28 so I don't think i'm too old to be referring to "those damn kids and their music" yet)

Really? Why do people still watch the Grammys? They've been a joke for years.

+infinity

Grammys have been a joke for close to 20 years.....disposable music wins all the time.

Kings of Leon.....LMAO
Beyonce....LMAO

I don't watch them usually, because I don't really keep up with top 40 radio anymore, therefore have no idea who half the singers and band are. And the ones I do recognize are usually the flavor of the year people that I don't like.

But I like the tributes and stuff like that - those are usually for people I know...lol.

I think what might have happened to Deb is what happened to me. Teen girls!! my daughter wants "her" radio
stations on in the car now, and I do it because of my memories of dad making me listen to 50's and 60's music when all I wanted to hear was my current 80's music! so I've gotten to know a lot of the newer music, a lot of which is more pop sounding and I've actually started to like some of it. It reminds me of old dance club music from the 80's. But I will agree that kings of Leon song is way over played. My daughter still loves it though. But my daughter also loves my newer Europe music too, so I'm ok with that. Music kind of ends up being a bonding experience with the kids. And as they get older they develop their taste for what they like but it's fun when you can share both their likes and your likes together though I guess. If that makes sense

There's still some good new music out there. That song SUCKS. plain & simple. The guys voice is very annoying. The song itself is even more annoying.
And this song wouldve sucked the same , if it had been released in the 90s , 80s or 70s.
I hear new music all the time at work. There are few good songs here and there. Their song isn't one of them.

what new music do you like? And I'm not being a smart ass. I'm just curious, cause it seems like everyone here only talks about classic groups or heavy rock, and not much about the pop stuff they hear on the radio. Are we all in the closet do you think?

IMHO today's music just sucks....no guitar solos. Singers that either sing with their teeth/jaw clenched a la Eddie vedder/Scott Stapp, or singers that just plain sound cookie-cutter. Pretty much no balls music. And if a group does have that ballsy sound, they either growl the lyrics, or talk about gloom and doom - woe is me shit.....

That's why I love melodic rock. None of that stuff....

There are still good Rock bands out there with great tunes that get some air time. Here's a few :

Coheed & Cambria
Protest The Heros
DragonForce
Paramore
Orianthi
System Of A Down/Serj solo stuff

But even in the pop department , I think Tatlor Swift , Beyonce , Colbie Caliat and even Lasy Gaga make some good catchy songs.

right, and I tend to agree mostly... but I don't discount all of it, especially now that my kids are teens I guess. And you sound just like my dad did about my 80's music ;) though I learned to appreciate some of his music, but not until I was an adult.

Well I meant more the stuff they play on the radio. The stuff that the kids hear and want to hear. I mean I like some of your first list too, but it's not what the kids are hearing on the radio. Unfortunately. That's why I like that my son goes beyond that and searches youtube and finds other things to like besides mainstream.

But girls are different I think. They are SO drawn to pop and what all the other girls like  And yes, the ones that you listed second would be it  My youngest just printed the lyrics to a Taylor Swift song and she's been walking around 2 days now singing it over and over driving us all crazy  Colbie Calait I can't get into. And I saw her live too, with Lifehouse (who I LOVE) and the GooGoo Dolls. Her stuff is too jazzy or something, I have no idea what it is, but I just can't like it much. But there are Beyonce, Taylor, and lady gaga songs that I have liked too, just because like you said they are catchy but fun to dance too also. Dancing around the living room with the kids is fun

Plus , I did mention those that you and your daughter listen to , that I think ate good tunes. Guess u forgot ur reading glasses ;)

Actually I REFERRED to your second list, so no, I don't need reading glasses :P I was just saying yes, that would be the list I wondered if you liked any of was all, not the first list, which I also like.

And I think "according to you" has been played, but I probably had no idea who was performing it :P The other ones though, aren't on the station my daughter listens to. They may be on the "mix" stations or the "current rock" stations that my son listens too, but not the "pop" channel my daughter and her friends listen to, which is what I was referring to in my question. I realize there are a lot of different stations and some play bettter mixes than others. But teen girls love this one:

http://www.xl1067.com/main.html (maybe actually seeing the station and what they play will make you understand I am NOT being a grandma. Not even close ;) :P )

Bingo! If I'm going to listen to some of the same music, I'd much rather it be Kings of Leon than say Taylor Swift or something. I like their crunchy rock sound and I'm not saying he's the best vocalist out there, but I think he sounds unique compared to alot of the cookie cutter pop sh*t out there. Besides, I've always liked some texture to my vocals. BB, Use Somebody is ok, but I much prefer the song in my sig or Notion.

It's a very shitty song DebMeister. I rather listen to Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga ,,,
I mean you know he's a crappy singer when he has to hickup through the lyrics.

To me their music sounds like if factfinder wrote a novel and had stevew2 proofread it before he published it. Yeah, that bad !!

Me too, lol. There are plenty of other women singers I think sound SO much better than some of the ones on the radio these days. 3 of them off hand I think have great voices:

Missy Higgins- Where I Stood (love this song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADV4Orr9r-o

Chantal Kreviazuk- Far Away (love this song too)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYyt1mhuoxY

And this one I don't know the singer's name, but the group is A Fine Frenzy, song- Almost Lover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDEEzS7OV2k
