Holy SHIT, this is the first I'm seeing a blizzard since the blizzard of 1993 and I can only remember a glimpse of it. In one hour, we have 8 inches of snow and reports are saying 15-16 by morning! Craziness! Looks like I'll be in lockdown for the next couple days. That equals partying on MR.

Well I am a Maine girl so snow blizzards are the norm.....not this year though!!! Enjoy I love a good blizzard!!!

Hope you guys stocked up. Here in WI were only supposed to get a few inches over the weekend into tuesday. I do wish I was over in the east coast though that's white gold

Young Journey- You are having a having a huge snow. The temps need to be lower and the winds 35-56 mph with higher gusts to be a blizzard. Here in Cincinnati we are having a heavy snow but the blizzard of 1-28-77 had 35-45 mph winds with gusts to 60. We were 5-10 below 0 or near 0 much of that winter. The Ohio River was frozen solid and barges could not get oil in and we were in the oil business. We had to ration and then the Govenor ordered all trucks off the road. I also loved the 81-82 play off game with the -59 degree "Freezer Bowl" with the Ohio River frozen and steaming.

I have 13 inches here in the South Hills near Pittsburgh...so far...another 3-5 on top of it...but sorry Trav this isn't a blizzard...the one in '93 we got 28 inches of snow or so...along with 60mph winds...THAT was a blizzard!

Artist4Perry- Good one. BTW-Where is our Global Warming $$$$ king????????? i.e. AL GORE. I hope he is in Washington, where 2 plus ft is expected. I hope Congress is out of town so they can't encumber our lives with ANY MORE TAXES & SILLY RULES ( LAWS). On the otherhand ,I hope they are stuck in the Capital bldg and have to shovel the roof themselves ! Oh,wait, the hot air in that building should melt the 2-3 ft of ice and snow.

5:30 in the morn. Just *attempted* to shovel out my driveway with 0 results. 6'2 resulted in 5'2 really fast. Heart attack waiting to happen. 18 inches with another possible 4.

NOW it's a blizzard!! We have at LEAST 20 inches here. You cannot tell I have a pool in my backyard...my dogs went out and all you could see was their heads sticking out of the little trails they made!

I am too old to shovel (read LAZY ), I am going to get a local kid or 3 to do it!

We got anally fucked last night too... the winds actually blew INCHES of snow onto the balconies/stairs/hallways of my apartment... that hasn't ever happened since I've lived here.

It just so happened that I went to an 80s tribute show last night and had to go downtown as the shit was starting... that was scary. Got drunk and crashed at my buddy's place. Even this morning just now at 9, the drive home was rough. I was slippin and slidin all over the damn place. Fuck snow.

WE have more on the way this week, but nothing like that!! I dont know if in modern times Des Moines area has had 20" inches or more at once... the xmas blizzard this winter came close with 13" BUT DAMN.... you need a tracker to get that snow off your driveway!!

I still remember the Twin Cities Halloween snowstorm of 1991, it officially dropped over 28" starting on Halloween. It certainly seemed like a lot more trying to dig out especially since they didn't have the plows on the trucks yet. Good planning, this is Minnesota. The kicker that year was on Thanksgiving, it dropped another 20+". Since this was Minnesota, I swear that Halloween snow was still on the ground come April. It was a tough winter, but life went on. Good luck digging out you guys on the east coast. Just think of all that exercise shoveling, tromping through snow drifts, pushing cars and the list goes on.

Yeah man, I think they were saying the most we ever got was 23 or 24 in '93, at least in my parts. They are now bumping it up to 24 inches when it's all said and done. This is the first time I'm technically experiencing this. Besides the back breaking shoveling, I think it's badass.

Thank God for laptops and cellular air cards, but power is short and I may need it later for booking a hotel!

No power for about 2 1/2 hours here now...Almost done with the driveway...measured just over 26 inches on my driveway before I shoveled.

They are saying some areas might not have power for SIX DAYS on the Allegheny Power website. SIX DAYS!

I will check in as often as I can...let you all know if we are still alive!

When we had that Ice storm my folks in the country were out of power for 2 weeks. That is so aweful, please let us know how you are!

I grew up in Erie, north of you guys, and in the snow belt we got slammed all the time, all winter, and they still do because I get to read about it on facebook now all winter long

But when you're talking blizzards, this reminds me of the winters I grew up with in the 70's! The blizzards then were unreal. I was a kid, so my reference was "higher than my swingset" deep Those are the only kind where you are actually "snowed in" and can't go anywhere, because normally Erie never shuts down. It takes a lot of snow for that to happen. They'd never have work or snow for 8 months a year snow kept them down

I do remember an occassional one in the 80's too, and driving home from work when one started once praying that the person's tracks in front of me I was following actually weren't going to lead me off the road into a tree Those pics bring back memories though! And that's exactly where I will keep them! Stay safe everyone dealing with it!

MOST fireplaces these days are gas/electric. Nothing beats the heat from a good old wood stove though.


I'm glad the snow missed us again. 42 more days.
