MelodicrockFest 2 - Logistics

Im sure Andrew wouldn't mind me starting this thread...

Let's talk about the following:

* Transportation to and from Elgin from the airports
* Hotel (I know Andrew's revealing a list)
* Dining
* nearest beer distributor
* Rental Cars
* tourism
* etc
* etc
* etc

For example, I'm trying to figure out. Will I need to rent a car or can I get away with using public transportation? What's immediately surrounding the Roadhouse as far as food, lodging, etc....

Anyone planning on doing sightseeing while there? Perhaps in the mornings going into chicago to see the windy city?

thoughts?

There are a lot of restaurants near the Roadhouse - who likes Mexican food? (I do!) There are several of those!

Renting a car is no problem - you get the airport shuttle to whichever rental place you book (they're all right there by O'Hare)... the airport sits right along the tollway that goes out to Elgin, which is I-90 West.

(p.s. - if you're reading maps at all, guys - the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway does NOT go to Elgin OR to O'Hare - don't get on it)

Plan alcohol procurement early enough - grocery stores/liquor stores shut it down anywhere from 12-1, depending on that town's liquor license... I don't know if they're all the same. But I found this out the night before JTTC when we went to Meijer and they weren't selling. :lol: Get it early and stash it for later.

The hotels out there, I can pretty much guarantee you will not shuttle to the airport. If you're not renting a car, get a cab at the airport. Should be about $30-$40 - the hotel will know, I can make those calls when we have more hotel info.

strangegrey wrote:* Transportation to and from Elgin from the airports

Fly into Midway and take Cicero Avenue north to I-55 south, to 294 north, to 290 west, to 90 west and that will take you right into Elgin. 40 miles and about 50 minutes on a Saturday.

strangegrey wrote:* Hotel (I know Andrew's revealing a list)

Let's do our best to stay at the Wombat's hotel of choice. That way we're all together and we can maximize the mayhem and make sure Andrew gets no sleep. :lol:

strangegrey wrote:* Dining

Alcohol and fast food. I thought you went to fucking college, Frank! Where'd you go ... Oral Roberts? :lol:

strangegrey wrote:* nearest beer distributor

Elgin is a fairly large suburban city. Plenty of liquor stores and bars.

strangegrey wrote:* Rental Cars

The airport you fly into seems like the best choice.

strangegrey wrote:* tourism

A trip to the city would be worth it if we can get 6-8 people to pony up for a limo. We could do a whirlwind tour of the city and try to have a beer at 8-10 of the more prestiged establishments. I'd be down for this.

Lastly, public transportation out of Elgin into Chicago might be an option. That's definitely something to look into.

I'll throw some details at you all this week. In the meantime, forget your logistics, I have to get 70 fricking musicians in and out of Chicago over a 4-5 day period!

Us 'outsiders' are going to have to rely on the guru's and locals (Dan, BJG, whoever) as far as restaurants and certain get together's involving groupings so to speak. I take it that the majority of us are going to be together throughout the weekend, whether it be pair ups/hotels, rooms, transportation, ETC? I'd hate to go into this blind so we can all be on the same page.

I've alredy checked - lots of restaurants near the hotel/venue area... no problem there - we won't be all that far from the Woodfield shopping area where there are TONS of places, also. And I know where the 24 hour Walmart is out there if one of youse discovers at 2 am that you forgot to pack underwear, or something. I got ya covered, and if I don't know the answer offhand, I'll find it for ya.

Saturday the Cubs play at 12:05 and Sunday is a 1:20 start. Perhaps people would like to see Wrigley Field, Beotch. :lol: Depending on the show's start time(s) for these days, a limo and a Cubs game might be on tap. 8)

I knew you'd like it. :wink: I'm gonna try and get tickets for the game from one of our suppliers, but May's a rainy month and it could be cold and shitty. Then again, it could also be 75 and sunny! Wrigleyville would probably be one of the cooler places for the out-of-towners to see. I hope stevew2 goes. We can send him into a gay bar. :lol: And, no, I don't know where they're at! :evil: :lol:

As far as hotels, are we just expecting to ALL pair up in the same hotel? Or will it be like Vegas where freakin Lynn and Mel have to miss some things because they are across on the other side of fucking Chicago catching an Opera. :shock: 8)

:lol: Do you know we ended up paying more in cab fare than it would have cost to just stay at planet hollywood! We would have done it different had we known! But we still stayed at that bar until morning every night :shock: :lol: And then the night I left my cell in that restaurant (when you had the giant mac and cheese :lol: ) and we took a cab to our hotel, took one back to get the phone hoping it would be there, and then back to our hotel again :shock: :lol: It was ridiculous! We aren't booking until everyone else does! :lol:
