To get the senior citizen discount even though your about 10 or so yrs away from actually being "considered" a senior citizen. Only asking because a friend of mine told me this she got the senior citizen discount @ a resturant and actually complained. But i got a real kick out of this one what do you guys think?

Any "comp", even a partial one, is still literally a compliment. :)
If being mistaken for a corpse would excuse onefrom paying taxes, hey... game on.

Me too, LOL. But then I got an invite to join the AARP a few years ago too, so that kinda kills that buzz.

When I worked at a pharmacy, the first Friday of every month was Senior's Day and there is no diplomatic way to ask that question - even the men can be vain! We were told that if someone looks like they could be a senior to just give them the discount without asking. If they weren't a senior and said something I would (honestly) tell them that I can't judge ages very well and we give people the benefit of the doubt. Most were quite happy to get 10% off regardless, but some women who were well past 65 would get their noses out of joint that people did not mistake them for being much younger, so you just can't win.

It's neither an insult nor a compliment, but it was unnecessary to complain - trust me, no one gives you a discount as an insult! If the waitress were looking to insult your friend, she would have asked her straight out if she qualified for the Senior's Discount and not just given it to her! If your friend is ten years away from being considered a senior and people are mistaking her for being one, it could be that the waitress is like me and has difficulty gauging a person's age (particularly if she is much younger than your friend) or it may be an indication that your friend needs to freshen her look up a bit. It's easy to perceive someone as older simply by the way they dress, style their hair, etc. A girl I've known since elementary school is only 37, but is prematurely gray and let her hair go solid gray - despite a young looking face, it makes her look like she is closer to 50 than 40. If you honestly think your friend looks her own age, it was probably just an inaccurate guess on the part of the waitress who was trying to dodge a bullet in not asking.

I get carded occasionally & I don't like it. That's when I tell myself it's time to grow a crab trap b/c I look too much like a baby, but then I end up looking like a baby with a crab trap.

Here's a recent picture of me:

I get a kick out of it, too!!

A couple of weeks ago I was buying some wine to take to a party. Once I made my
selection I took it to the counter to check out and the girl that had been helping me asked for my ID. I laughed
and said, "oh come on you know I'm older than 21." she said, "yes ma'am, but we have to ask everybody."
I told her that I understood and gave her my DL. She took a long look at the ID and then announced that
she knew I was older than 21 but she didn't think I was that old. I LMAO, the guy behind me was LHAO ...
he assured me that there was a compliment in there somewhere~it was priceless, I told her I would be telling that story
for weeks.
So I went from being carded to needing an AARP card within a matter of seconds ... the only time I ever
get carded anymore is if the person waiting on me is a new young employee that has been told in order to be safe
and keep your job, card everyone!!!

With all due respect, F you. I don't get carded anymore. That stopped around 29 or 30.
I pull my license out in anticipation, hoping they will think they need to check and they don't even care.
I'm convinced they're all thinking, "nope, don't need to card this old ass bitch."

It's weird, when I was in bars at 18-20 years old, no one said a word. Not even one time.
People always took me for about 4-5 years older than I was.

From about 24-29, I couldn't even look at the front door of a bar without someone wanting to see my license.
People told me then that I looked like I was 22-25.

I figured it out - I looked exactly 25-26 years old from the time I was 21 to the time I was 30. That's officially over now.

Bring on the AARP. At least I'll get the discount.
