So, who is your all-time least favorite super group? I've put a poll on here representing some of my least favorites, but feel free to state another. At any rate, explain your choice.

Mine is Chickenfoot. These guys were just so damn disappointing. I love Sammy, Satch, Michael Anthony, and I guess Chad Smith is a good drummer even though I'm not huge on RHCP save 5 or 6 songs. It was astounding how damn pedestrian the songwriting/hooks were, considering Sammy is usually such a great hook writer. It was also incredible how vanilla the riffs and guitar playing were as a whole, considering how fucking good Satch usually is. All in all, just a colossal disappointment of an album.

My pick is SoulSirkUS. I don't get the love. The music doesn't do anything for me. Sorry, Neal.

SoulSirkUS was a solid band live. Amazing actually. But I was totally disappointed with the CD itself. I was just amazed how these 4 guys made a sucky CD to sound so awesome live.

Asia was great, 10X better than that crap Neal put out there. How is Soul Sirkus considered a super group to begin with? The only person a casual fan might even know was the guitarist, who's biggest claim to fame was being part of the ballad bombers coalition of the 80s and riding a Diane Warren song to the top of the charts.

I'd like to add my own personal pick: Damn Yankees.

Not sure you can really call it a "super" group, but Powerstation was anything but super.

I wish Damn Yankees would tour again.

Actually, how many "supergroups" are in music today? I honesty don't know what describes a supergroup.

If you had seen chickenfoot live I think you would have felt differently

To me, a super group is a group of excellent, reputable musicians from different bands (usually at least semi popular) coming together to form one band.

I don't see how you could say bands like Chickenfoot and Asia aren't super groups. An older example outside of the MR scene would be the Traveling Wilburys (Petty, Harrison, Orbison, Dylan, Lynne). Even if you don't like the bands/music/individual players, you can't argue that each piece of bands like those carried at least a fair amount of weight in his own right in the musician community.

A super group is NOT a band that is legendary/great together, like your E Street or The Beatles. What do you take to be a super group Dean? I'm just asking, because my general definition is certainly what would be considered by most as accurately describing a super group.

As for my poll, Page/Coverdale and Soul SirkUS are perhaps reaches, but I mean Jimmy Page is a goddamn legend and Coverdale had plenty of success in Whitesnake, so...

Soul SirkUS, same thing... not huge star power/instant name recognition among each member, but damn good musicians individually and certainly members who have had tons of success.

But, either way, I included groups like those rather than the Wilburys and some others (like Gerry Beckley-Robert Lamm-Carl Wilson) because I figured folks here would be more familiar.

I asked what is a supergoup? I remember Journey being referred to as a super group back in the day. So for your arguments sake, let's go with your definition of musicians coming together. SoulSirkus is not one of them for obvious reasons, although I thought that album was awesome. The members in that band simply were not big enough, yet they were fucking great musicians. Chickenfoot is obviously the biggest compilation of star power aside from Jimmy Page.

I think their may be two categories of "Supergroup."

As for the supergroups out there today, I would say U2 and the E Sreet Band are definites. Can you think of any others? Sorry Deb, Mr Big isn't one of them.

Sorry Dean, but those bands just aren't super groups, as it's commonly used in music literature. They are mega stars, world famous, legends, whatever else you want to call them, but not super groups in a pure sense.

Absolutely. A decent enough band to make the GH compilation worth owning. "Straight To Your Heart" is a killer tune.

My interpretation of Super Group is what MTV defined it as when Asia came out, a group composed of members from other successful acts. Asia's parts were gathered from King Crimson, Yes, ELP and the Buggles. At least three of those groups were pretty well known and the Buggles had their fame come from having the first video on MTV, the audience that Asia was directed at. if you were part of that generation, you will remember that Asia was huge when they came out, a band created entirely for the new market of MTV.

chickenfoot- they song are not instantly catchy like sammys stuffw/vh but if you give it a few spins, things like sexy little thing/futures in the past are great
damn yankees 1st cd was very good, but didnt like the 2nd much
asia 1st was amazing, internal problem prevented the next to from being great

Chickenfoot, for all the reasons Matt already outlined above.
Tho I think Satch does manage to shine on a few songs.
