Man, these guys really just can't help themselves when it comes to staying off the pill bottle/needle/dust, can they?

A little will power would go a long way for most of these clowns

Because he was too busy doing drugs to be able to pull it off. What a complete idiot. He could of had it all. Now he has nothing, including his life.

So sad, cute kid!!
Can't say I'm shocked I saw him on some sort of intervention show a year or so ago
and his friend Corey Feldman was trying to help him get his career back on track along
with his life!!

Unsurprising.
I liked Haim but I watched the Coreys reality show and you could see this coming.

Dear Every Celeb I Grew Up With:

Stop it with all this dying business, please.

MJ, Swayze, River, Corey... well, let's add The Lost Boys to the list of movies I love that are hard to watch now.

Sad. I hadn't heard much about Corey for awhile - I thought he had pulled himself together?
Never saw the Coreys reality show though.

Watch it in tribute.

Yea I think he was set up to be in the new Lost Boys sequel....showed up in a deleted scene at the end the end of the first sequel...

People like that can do a good approximation of normalcy in short doses, like you observed in Feb., Nora.

True! Love that movie, just watched it again a couple months ago and it hasn't lost any of it's corney charm. Great soundtrack!

Sad news about Haim, I thought he had gotten it together recently too. :( But Feldman........can't stand him, waste of space.

Yea, sdtk is good INXS...I even like that song by the muscle dude who plays sax in the concert scene.

And how can you not love the Frog Brothers? Feldman's a twerp NOW but in that role he was classic.

Many recovery programs say willpower has almost nothing to do with recovery from addiction (or else people would have already recovered themselves). One website says,

"Although these impulses operate at a preconscious level, there are strategies, medicines and life changes that have proven effective in minimizing the impact exerted by the preconscious impulses to use. Willpower has nothing to do with it, but it takes enormous strength, courage and will to participate fully in difficult therapies of recovery and to make the life changes required to minimize the impact of these triggers to use."

Hmm... just noticed he does say it takes "will". Not sure I understand the difference between willpower and will is, but overall I disagree -- I think conscious choice (or will) factors in to some extent and I feel it's dangerous to ignore that, though I don't think willpower alone is enough to beat true addiction.

Very sorry to hear about Corey Haim's passing.

He didn't look too good in that video. Looked a little buzzed and when the interviewer asked him about rehab and being sober he quickly changed the subject back to his projects.

Rip, it's not a coincidence that all of these celebs have drug problems. They have the money, the time, and most importantly, the job description to be able to do it. They make a conscious choice to get into drugs. It's a far cry from someone growing up in a poor drug-infested slum that gets hooked on drugs because selling and using are the basic social norms there. Whatever chemical addiction these celebs develop springs from the conscious, opportunistic choice to start doing the drugs in the first place.

They are doing a 3rd movie? Wow... the first sequel was actually better than I expected for as long as it got delayed, even though it was pretty much a rehash of the original story that borrowed too much from the first movie. The creators kept dangling whether or not Corey Haim would be in that sequel, and I believe I'd read somewhere that he was having problems on the set that ended up getting his part cut down to that one scene. I could be wrong, and someone please correct me if you know otherwise.

Yes Haim was doing drungs on the set and they kept having to scale his role back further and further until he disappeared from the movie except for the end credits.

The filming of it was documented in the 2 Coreys reality show.

I also think alot of it has to do with the people that surround them too. YES people, that don't necessarily have their best interests at heart.

I agree with most of what you say. I remember an article that talked about how celebrities often develop a specific type of super-narcissism that comes from all the attention they get. It has to be a surreal way to live. Also have read that most celebrities are actually HIGHLY insecure due to all the pressure to perform, be perfect, etc. Put those two things together and you have a great recipe for future addiction.

Yes, they definitely make the choice to start using drugs, get wasted, etc. AA teaches is that an addict always chooses to pick up that first drink every time, but that drink sets up a type of "allergic" reaction specific to the disease that results in a craving for more that is near impossible to control. Of course there are different levels of severity in a person's addiction -- not everyone drinks or drugs until they pass out every time they do it, but some do have it that bad. On the lighter end are the "functional" addicts, who manage to limit their use to restricted time (like non-working hours) and can hold down jobs, are responsible to some extent, etc. but they still have a very difficult struggle. Then of course you have those that carry a flask to work with them, or drink mouthwash for the alcohol to cover the smell, and those that end up losing everything and living on the streets.

I definitely agree that there is choice involved, for sure. But addiction is way more complicated than just an issue of morals, willpower or choice. Anyway, I'd never make excuses for an addict under any circumstances, but I do think there is hope for everyone who has the desire to recover.

Yeah, you're right. I'd heard about that but never saw the show. Not really fond of Corey Feldman after watching his idiocy on The Surreal Life. LOL. I'm sure the "2 Coreys" show was a kick, though.

Best line in "Lost Boys 2" -- Corey Feldman asking, "Who ordered the stake?"

Super-narcissism sounds about right, just look at the Ben Rapistberger situation. At the bare minimum, this was a guy who thought he was entitled to put the physical moves on every piece of ass that caught his eye, at worst he's a rapist. Pure entitlement.

Oh, yeah -- same thing with people like Mike Tyson (the Desiree Washington case at least). I don't really have any sympathy for that at all.

LOL, you can tell I'm a few years older than you, my crushes in that one were Jason Patric and Keif (one heck of an actor). But I did think Haim was absolutely adorable.....especially that scene before his vampire brother comes home......where he's sitting in a bubble bath singin' away while shampooing his hair up into a spike.

Nom nom nom.

You know who else was hot - the one vampire with the real long drak hair.
Some random actor whose name I don't know - but still.

So it seems that this is now a Lost Boys Appreciation Thread?

I'm good with that. better than talking about death and drugs. :(
