Iggy Pop Inducted Into the RRHallofFame Today?

Postby SherriBerry » Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:44 pm

Why would Iggy Pop be inducted into the RRHF? I understand some of the other inductees, including ABBA (continues to be a significant Pop influence on current major artists) and Genesis, but Iggy Pop? Isn't he more Punk? The only song of his I even remember was Wild One from some movie soundtrack. :?

I'll be watching for Genesis only. Is this thing on TV? For The Boss to get in before Genesis is a crime. LOL

I have, now that you mention it - the only lyrics I remember are "lust for life" repeated over and over.

The RRHOF is a fucking joke. Abba and Iggy Pop get inducted before Kiss, Styx, Triumph, and Rush? What the fuck? They should change the name to Pop Music Hall Of Fame.

Yeah, Genesis' body of work is so much more impressive, right? The Greats get fast tracked in, and it also helps when your manager is on the Board at the RnRHOF. Jon Landau is his manager, and an influential member of the Hall.

Wait a minute. You are saying that ABBA, is less deserving than Styx? Triumph being mentioned here isn't even funny. Kiss isn't even a real band, they were a rock version of the Monkees. Rush I can understand. Those guys are mega talented. But you can forget about Styx ever getting in, and the only way Triumph gets close to the Hall is if they tour Cleveland, Ohio.

Hey Matt, you do know that the ESB didn't get in with Bruce right? When he broke up the band in the late 80's, he went in solo. He says to this day, this is his biggest regret in his career.

Not in the Midwest USA where I live. I would guess that many of my friends who love Styx, Journey, and Rush have never even heard of him. Maybe he is popular elsewhere in the USA or outside the country, but not here. I can't even tell you one song that he sings.

Abba is a good band but I wouldn't personally consider them rock. I am not a big fan of Kiss, but it would seem to me that they are more of a "rock" band than Abba - don't you think so?

Don't be giving me those non-smiling emoticons like you do with your message board lover Steveo77.

KISS was great at what they did- entertain, but they can't play their way out of a wet paper bag. The Monkees had more talent, unless you count Genes cunnilingus abilities with his 4 foot tongue.

Well the iggy followers I knew were in Erie, Pa, which is PRACTICALLY the midwest  And it was people who were teens in the late 70's, not the 80's. You might be too young to know

And how could you have never heard this! It's the freaking Royal Caribbean cruiseline theme

Well, first of all, it's not just about popularity and I personally think Iggy Pop sucks. It's not a matter of personal bias for me, I just know how these things work. And Triumph was a good band with an outstanding guitar player, but come on, they don't have the pedigree that even a Styx does, let alone someone like Genesis or Springsteen.

We also have to keep in mind that some ridiculous omissions continue from the late 60s/early 70s... like The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. How can bands that penned absolute American rock classics (despite being from Canada 8) ) like "American Woman" and "Takin Care of Business" not have gotten the nod by now?

This whole "rock" or "pop" thing to me is a gray area. I just imagine that the Hall is called "rock" but it obviously contains all kinds of genres, and a lot of the inductees are pop, and many are deserving.

You're right, I was not a big 70's rock fan. But I know all the good rock bands from that time, and Iggy isn't one of them IMO. The only recollection I have of Iggy Pop is a guy who used to be a big fan and then went to prison for being a pedo. So I have always associated Iggy Pop with pedophilia.

I agree! And maybe they should have named it something to include the "pop" music too, so that people don't get so worked up over the fact that other musicians are included! I don't see anything wrong with having all musicians eligible.

Motown/Soul, Pop, maybe even some organic forms of R&B are all great additions to the Hall. But, I draw the line at inducting rap music - come on, there's no melody or instrumentation there at all. Hell, half of it is stolen from real "rock" artists. Rap simply shouldn't be eligible.

One that surprises me is that Alice Cooper is not in yet. He's a pioneer to a genre and a genius.
