Anal retentive grammar rant ahead

OK, folks...It's an ALBUM. The CD is the medium the ALBUM is recorded on. Cassettes, vinyl LPs, eight tracks, etc., were the medium the ALBUM was recorded on. An album, in this case, merely means "collection of", as in a "picture album", "stamp album", etc.

Thus ends the anal retentive grammar rant. Discuss amongst yourselves. :D

Yep...Album is always going to be the way. You can also use 'record' as in 'that's a great record' as the artists RECORDED the collection of tunes (to whatever source for release).

:P

Christians are trying to take over this country and you are worried about the non-use of the word 'album'?

So when the band is getting ready to do something like go into the studio, would you say the band IS or the band ARE? Is it Journey ARE playing at the O2 arena, or Journey IS playing at the O2 arena? (of course they aren't playing the O2...just funning)

Rant away...........

Correct, but I think you can still say, "I bought the new Journey CD" and be technically correct as long as it's a CD you bought. :)

Hmmm...

What about:

Hall and Oates are/is playing?
Peaches and Herb?
Hamilton, Joe, Frank and Reynolds?

Are they bands ... and therefor "is" or a group of singers... "are?"

+1

I also like it when people say "I have an Mp3" when they mean "I have something that can play an Mp3".

Problem nowadays with the digital sales format: albums maybe recorded, but are irrelevant. Right now it's all about singles (not singles released to media for promotion, just single (blech) files/songs).

LOL learn something new everyday around here. I'm guilty of that, I stopped calling them albums when CDs came out as I just assumed album meant "vinyl/record/album". Either way, when I buy a CD it IS a CD, but that's ok Dave, you can call it an album. And my apologies for any part in making you anal retentive today......maybe cut back on the cheese. :P

Doesn't the Grammys award "record of the year" to a single?

Just as long as nobody waits until the Winger show to cut the cheese, because we very well may be standing in close proximity.
