But, like others have said, with all the music at my disposal, whether on hard drive or iPod, I don't burn CDs too often anymore. Hell, I don't even do playlists on the iPod. I just put it on random at let it go....
Unfortunately, I don't have a player in the truck that can play anything other than normal CD audio tracks, so I can't just burn a disc of MP3s.
Same here. A car player that would accept something more than a cd would be nice, but it's a luxury that I don't have. If I'm just burning something to archive it, it doesn't matter. If I'm burning a personal "best of" cd to listen to while driving or otherwise, I spend as much time trying to figure out what order to put the songs in as what songs should be included. For what it's worth, most of my cds are arranged like a concert (ie uptempo opening, then dig into the catalogue a bit, then back to uptempo for the end). For some bands where there isn't much variation within the albums, the order matters less...for others, it matters a lot. It takes work, but
Also, I tend to prefer live versus studio most of the time. Main reason is energy and the vibe you can get when a band is "clicking", but also because you can make anybody sound good in a studio--live (if it's REALLY live) separates the really good bands from the pretenders. There's also the bands/artists that produce magic playing live that they never really capture in a studio environment (John Farnham is one of those that comes to mind). It all depends on the band itself.
