Apple says it sold more than 300,000 of its latest product, the iPad tablet computer, on its launch day in the US.

The figures for Saturday included pre-orders of the device, as well as sales at Apple stores across the country.

The iPad is not yet available in other countries, but will be on sale in parts of Europe, Canada and Australia by the end of April.

It is retailing in the US at $499 to $829 (£328 to £545). European prices have not yet been announced.

Apple said that iPad users had downloaded more than one million applications from its app store and more than 250,000 electronic books.

The first generation model has wi-fi but not 3G connectivity.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said in a statement that the touchscreen device was "going to be a game changer".

Queues for the new iPad's launch day were considerably smaller than the crowds which gathered for the iPhone's debut in July 2007, according to reports.

On the iPhone's launch weekend in the US, it was reported that up to 525,000 phones had been sold.

That's good for them. I looked into it and hate the fucking thing, besides I've never been an Apple fan. PC stands no risk of losing me as a customer, so far. :D

I'm a big Apple fan but I don't see the point in this thing. My sister's boyfriend loves this kinda shit, he ran out and bought one and was showin me it Saturday night, seems pretty pointless to me unless you don't have either a laptop or an iPhone.

I'm no Macfag but I admit the iPad had such potential for what it could be, and they really dropped the ball. No multitasking, Flash, or stylus are my main gripes. Not surprised that 300k kool-aid drinkers bought into it, though.

Actually we all know by now youre an anti-mac ;) The multitasking is something that Im sure will be revealed by April 8th when theyre announcing new OS4....stylus belongs to the past,,, ;)

Im no "madfag" either,, in fact I have enjoyed many PCs the last 20+ years,,, never wanted a Mac,,, until I bought my iphone 2 years ago,,, and then an iMac last year.
If I didnt have an iPhone, I would definately get an iPad... but since my iPhone does pretty much all that iPhone does , I will skip this one ...

This is by far a great unit and an excellent way for Apple to get more market share. Keep in mind the 300-500k units being sold the 1st week of the release are reflecting the numbers on the wifi models getting sold,, by the end of the month when the 3G version comes out, that number will rise.
I am more excited about the new iPhone (4th Generation), hopefully being announced this spring for a July release! :)

you will get one B in time... it will change the way you read... books, newspapers... and I think it will make the lap tops on the endangered list... is what will be neat is on an airplane it will take up less space than a lap top...and you will be able to download books and newspapers to read, or your reports... or whatever. If the pc comes out with their own version of the ipad ... I think thats what I will go with.

I'm getting one of these but not for a while ... the price can and most likely will come down at some point and I also like to wait for the "bugs" to be ironed out before I make a purchase like this.

I love my iPhone and look forward to the next generation of it as well.

A friend's mom has an iMac and she has both Windows AND The Mac stuff installed on it so she can basicly go back and forth from Mac to PC on one computer.

Jesus, this thing doesn't even have a USB port? I figured they might be alright if u could hook a USB keyboard up to them and use it as a makeshift laptop if you wanted to.

If the touchscreen on the iPad is anything like it is on the iPhone, then your post is a better commercial for the rock than the iPad. 8)

So then, please explain to me what a "feesbie" is?

It turns out that after a couple days of use this thing is a piece of shit.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/ptech/04/0 ... tml?hpt=T2

(CNN) -- Users who rushed to snap up Apple's iPad are complaining within days of the slate computer's highly anticipated release that they're having trouble connecting it to the Internet.

It can't be operator error because mac heads are Uber-Intelligent!

That's why you gotta be a total mental midget to rush out and buy anything like this in the first wave.
