That's a real ad? If it is, it's one of those types that used to drive me nuts in the 90s, where the content has absolutely NOTHING to do with the product they are selling. I watch them and am just kinda like, "huh?!?"

Just wow then. Awful.

Donnie Deutsch, the marketing guy with the show on cable, says it is a stroke of genius, brilliant, by acknowledging it and walking straight into the subject and having his father as his conscience. HIs interviewer said you think it's genius. Most people say it's creepy.

I heard about it on the radio this morning, and they played clips. I didn't realize the voice was his father! Wow... When I said those types of ads getting on my nerves because they have nothing even remotely to do with the product, I definitely give them credit for one thing -- they are designed to get people talking, and this one definitely will. It's a BRILLIANT concept but I hate it as a commercial at the same time. I think we are supposed to think it's disturbing, creepy, honest, revealing, etc -- a whole gambit of things, hence the desire to spark conversation about it. And somewhere thru all that, subliminally we think of Nike and might even buy one of their products. :)

It is creepy...and a blatant ploy for sympathy. Both Tiger and Nike should be ashamed of themselves.

Creepy or whatever, it is brilliant. It's doing exactly what was probably intended - get everyone talking about it. I guarantee you that Nike is more concerned with rebuilding Tiger than Tiger is. His whole comeback is carefully calculated by many. I fully expect to see more ads/whatever just like this. I love marketing.

I saw it on TV, the whole thing of making Tiger into a sad victim really gets on my nerves. He may be a sex addict but he's also a sleazebag. Can he stop getting publicity now??

It's creepy, but more importantly, unbelievably sleazy. In essence, he is exploiting the memory of his dead father in order to turn a buck for himself. Unbelievable. I live in a world I don't understand.

sleeping with other women when:

- you are already married,
- your wife is pregnant
- after she bears you 2 children

is not sex addiction... its immorality....

Tiger is fucking arrogant, and a self absorbed idiot...

Any real man with a conscience would have told Nike to pull any ad that paints him as a "victim" of his own weaknesses... this is a slap in his wife's face..

In the words of Brian May... "he needs to own his own poo"

Nike is one of the few companies that stood by him and agree with the ad or not, they kind of own him...

No, it can be sex addiction. Part of the criteria for addiction is that people continue their destructive habits even when endangering their whole lifestyle. Tiger is clearly one of those people who creates chaos in their life because it's all they know. Having kids or a marriage isn't going to stop someone who has a legit problem. Someone who cheats on occasion is probably just a cheater, but someone who cheats with as many people as he did and so recklessly probably has a lot of underlying issues.

Total bullshit, Sarah. He made conscious decisions involving free will. There is no excuse. Sort of like him teeing off, seeing the ball slice wildly and then screaming at someone that snapped a picture. The guy always has an excuse ... and he always will as long as people fall for this dopey logic that his indiscretions were because of an "addiction." Nigga, please!

Really Dan, where did we go wrong in this country? When did it happen and how? We honestly have people out there believing you can be "addicted to sex"!

It's phonier than a $3 bill.

If you want to root for the guy's golf game, fine. Don't try and tell me he was addicted to sex. God what has happened to us?

I used to have an anger problem, especially while playing sports. It was an issue, I routinely embarrassed myself, and guess what? I didn't need anger management or some pill to help me. I just exercised my free will and controlled myself consciously over time until it became second nature not to embarrass myself with fits of rage. Was it a lifestyle problem? Yes, especially when it happened outside of competitive situations over small things. Was it an illness, addiction, or otherwise requiring treatment or management/therapy of some kind? lol, no.

In terms of marketing, the ad is brilliant. It doesn't depict Tiger as a victim, but rather as someone who is ashamed and needs to analyze his mindset and learn from his mistakes. Whether he really is ashamed or simply embarassed at being caught and the details being made public, I really don't know. I do think using his father's voice is designed to create a degree of sympathy for him. After Kanye West's incident with Taylor Swift, Kanye tried to claim on The Jay Leno Show that his behaviour was due in part to the loss of his mother and her guidance, even though he had pulled a similarly arrogant stunt at the 2007 MTV Music Video Awards 2 months before her death. :?

For Nike, it's a really smart move. Tiger is such a sports phenomenon that the public is looking for any reason to forgive him and move on. Either that or the public really doesn't care all that much what he does in his private life, and his sponsors will simply change the way they market him. A year after the allegations against Kobe Bryant, he signed a $136M contract and got endorsements back from Nike and Coke. I read his formal apology to the victim and her family and based on what I read, he didn't sound innocent. Tiger is a philanderer, but not a rapist or murderer. As long as he keeps winning at golf, he will be back on top within a year.

He might as well have raped his wife considering the degree of his infidelity. Calling him a philanderer is an insult to men and women carrying on affairs everywhere. Much too classy of a term for him. There's cheating on your significant other, and then there's what he did... wow.

It is a creepy ad - a grown man being scolded by his father's voice while he stares emotionless into the TV? Fucking bizarre. But like I said, to use your dead father's voice to try and recoup your public image is so disgusting on the part of both Nike and Tiger that it's not even funny. Sickening. If my dad were dead and someone came up to me and asked to use him in that way (eg to recoup my damaged public image), I probably wouldn't even say the word "No:" I'd probably just punch their teeth out.

Agreed. When I saw the ad initially, I didn't know that was his father's voice. I heard that yesterday on a couple different radio programs that were having Tiger discussions. Absolutely sickening. I'm just shocked that both Nike and ESPECIALLY Tiger would be so TACTLESS. For Tiger to do something like that - so disrespectful. However, it's obvious that respect is not exactly one of his strong suits anyway. The guy is a pig and this ad, in my eyes, has only added to that.

I don't think he's a sex addict, per se, but I believe he does have sexual compulsion issues coupled with a major lack of character with a huge ego, and seeming inability or want ,more probably, to control his desire to nail as many women as possible for his turn on. He could, so he did. I'm sure most men with one mistress were having way more sex than he was with his scattered fly-them-in-for-a-day-here-or-there mistresses. He was filling his sexual desire with narcissistic behavior, to me. He needs therapy, I'm sure, to face his demons and impulse control if he ever wants to have a happy intimate marriage or longterm relationship or maybe he shouldn't marry and do what he wants then. My professional opinion.

if Tiger had not hid it from his wife, handlers, posse, mangers, corporate sponsors and other girlfriends.. I'd say... yea he has a clinical sex addiction problem.... but he KNEW what he was doing and went to great lengths to hide his behavior... yea he loves his wife, and his kids, and values his posse, mangers, corporate sponsors... but he loved his other girlfriends more..

Next thing Tiger will be diagnosed with clinical "depression" due to what he did to himself... sheesh..

There is no rational argument for equating messing around on your wife to any degree and raping her - not even in the same orbit. And right now I have no doubt there is a plethora of rock stars and movie stars thanking God that texting and paparazzi were not around in the 70s and 80s - considering the groupie culture, we would all have to hate a lot of people whose work we admire. Think about it - how many rock stars whose music you love, probably did at least as much screwing around on their wives as Tiger Woods?
